Description of holiday house near Sainte-Foy-de-Belves, Aquitaine
Pechaloune is a charming house situated in a privileged environment in the heart of Perigord.
Nestled at the end of the valley, the house is not overlooked and invisible from the (small) road. It is accessed along a 200m grassy path.
It is located in the village of Sainte Foy Belvès, which has a Romanesque church of the XI, flanked by a superb cypress trees, a laundrette and three beautiful houses.
Six kilometers away is Belvès, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, where you can enjoy all facilities, all shops and a nice pool.
This is the place to explore the valley of the Dordogne Sarlat Limeuil through Gageac Laroque, to discover the Domme or Montpasier, or the castles of Beynac Castelnaud, sites of prehistoric or Lascaux or EISI to get lost in the vineyards of Bergerac.
Nearby you will find many artisan producers of specialties such as foie gras farms and several hostels.
The kitchen, recently renovated, is equipped with an oven, induction cooker, a microwave, a refrigerator, coffee maker and a dishwasher. Do not get bored with chores during those precious moments!
The house can be heated by electric heaters for the mid season. But it is even more fun to enjoy the warmth of the wood stove in the lounge for an evening of dreams.
The upstairs bedroom has a large canopy bed with two mattresses and box springs. In the small room, are installed two single beds of 90 cm, while in the living room is a sofa bed. We do not provide sheets or towels for the kitchen.
The bathroom includes sink and shower with thermostatic valve. Another shower is installed on the south terrace. There is a combined radio-CD in the living room. We have deliberately avoided pollution in this protected place - this is an opportunity to meet and share unforgettable moments with your family. For aficionados however, the previous owners left us a TV antenna which collects 5 French channels to bring your picture box... if you insist ...
In summer, the living space is usually outside. The terrace was given a corner seat in which to take a small walnut wine as aperitif and / or sun. Table and chairs are provided for meals, or in the corner seat, or in the shade of the vine that climbs over the pergola. A barbecue allows dads to work with good humour.

Location description
If you like markets, on sunday morning, go to St. Cyprien. Don’t hesitate to buy some cabécoux (goat cheese), jams craft (especially those with marats des bois, a kind of strawberries), dry sausages and nuts wine. An expresso or a large cafe cream at the bar-tabac near the fountain, a fine beginning for the day!On Wednesday night, in season, it is possible to eat under the halles of Belvès. Don’t forget your forks, plates and cups (they are in the cupboard). You will find a market for local products (confit, potatoes à la sarladaises, wines of the country,…) and international (Pizzas, fries, pancakes, sodas,…). Most often with a musical atmosphere, it can be jazz, musette, harmonium, folk, ...
If you want to discover the authentic regional products:
Claude Roche is a buddy and lives in 5 minutes walk to the Grangette Basse. Arriving you will see its panels representing a goose. He raises his geese himself, very carefully. It nurtures grains himself to feed them. He gives them as his grandmother taught him, with a completely unexpected care. In winter, he goes on the hunt for truffles with his little dog in the truffière planted by his father who was the village mayor. He has his own vineyard and an artificial lake, around which he collects a variety of animals ranging from swans to nandou (a kind of ostrich). But he has a series of specialties: an extraordinary humor full of tenderness, “foie gras entier”, neck stuffed through the various confits. Feel free to visit him and make a stock of provisions for the next holiday season.
If you like to enjoy the good things of life:
Why not a breakfast at Belvès. Leave your car in the parking overlooking the valley of the Nauze. Remount the rue de la Brèche (that of the postoffice) to the Place d'Armes (with the Hall) turn right at the main street, you will find a bookstore and a bakery among other shops. Then you can go back to the place to taste your croissants with a good café-crème on the terrace of the bar.
Sarlat is a great city but very touristy, we like to get there in late afternoon when the crowd has withdrawn. The evening light makes the colours of the stones even more beautiful. An apero (nut wine) on the square in front of the town hall, an open space with seating terraces to appreciate the harmony of the frontages. For us, the best restaurant is the Presidial. Why wouldn't you stop at Domme on the road to Sarlat. A balcony above the Dordogne.
But if you visit just one place, then we must go to Monpazier. It's a beautiful bastide, the one that has the best preserved its original geometry. The central square, with its couvers, seems to be created to serve as a film setting. In season: every Thursday cinema outdoors in the garden of the cure.
If you like a nice drive:
Between Vézère and Dordogne: A good half day. Go to Siorac, and cross the Dordogne. Take the direction of Buisson de Cadoin, as soon as you see the arrows Limeuil, follow this direction until this superb village at the confluence between Vézère and Dordogne. You park near the river and travel back to the single lane. Incidentally notice under the door the levels attained by the various floods. Two artisans working under your eyes: a glass-blowing and a copper-smith. Continue to Trémolat through his cingle, the panorama is worth a stop. Then direction Lalinde. Cross the river again and return to Sainte Foy through Cadoin (very beautiful small hall, church interesting, but the price of the tour of the monastery is prohibitive).
The valley of the Dordogne: Half a day. Start with La Roque-Gageac, one of the most beautiful villages in France, is nestled at the base of cliffs, in a loop of the Dordogne. It enjoys a nearly Mediterranean climate. Beside the church, thanks to this great natural solarium, flourishes a surprising exotic garden, with its lush subtropical and Mediterranean vegetation: palm trees of all kinds, bougainvillea, passion , mimosas, oleander trees, bananas, oranges, lemons, grenadiers, giant bamboo, fig barbarity, agaves. A little further on, you will find the village of Beynac and Cazenac. Beynac Castle deserves the visit, and the small church of Cazenac enjoys a superb frame.
A small round of the Roman chapels: take the road to Belvès, under Belvès turn right to Sagelat which has a small beautiful chapel, its frame is perfect! Follow the direction Grives, Saint Laurent la Vallée, Doissat and Prats (small church ***). Orliac is a very small village that is almost too nice to be true. Go to Sainte Foy and his remarkable clocher-mur. The interior has been restored to authentic, the ceiling is really rare!
If you like gardens:
You have to see the gardens of the castle Marqueysac, they overlook the Dordogne and offer a pretty shady stroll. On Thursday night, in season, it is illuminated with candles, very romantic!
The Castle of Lacoste is also very beutiful, but it is often not open to the public.
If you are not afraid to ride:
The Lascaux Caves: 45 minutes. Of course it is their reproduction "Lascaux II”. The tikets are on sale at the Office du Tourisme of Montignac, north of Sarlat. It will tell you what time your visit begins. Those guided tours in groups of thirty people make you really appreciate this extraordinary discovery. If you pass by there, do not miss the village of Saint Genies with its roofs of lauses and the fortified church of Saint Amand de Coly.
Rocamadour, this jewel of Quercy, the second site of France after the Mont Saint Michel, is only at about forty km, but the trip takes one hour. During the season, we also recommend a visit in the evening, after the departure of the tourist buses, and when the car park is empty. Just next door is the Pit of Padirac, with its underground river, an ideal outing during hot days. St. Cirq Lapopie, the most beautiful village in France for some, undoubtedly deserves the detour.
If you like a bit of physical activity:
Canoeing on the Dordogne: we recommend canoes Raid in Vézac. The best way is to let you start more upstream and pass under the Cingle and the castle of Monfort. Impressive.
A small hike: You will find the maps in the drawer. The loop des Manoirs, 14 km, is the closest, it starts facing in Sainte Foy and brings you back to the house. A different way to enjoy the valley of the Beuze. There are similar loops starting at the center of Souillac, near the castle of Castelnaud and Aurillac.
Tennis: poolside Municipal Belvès and near the market store of Souillac.
If you have children:
The castle of Castelnaud offers a museum of the war in the Middle Ages, with actors, interactive terminals, models, animated films,…
The village of Bournat: In le Buisson de Cadoin, a reconstituted typical village of 19 th century, with a lot of activities and occupations. Observe and talk to a beekeeper, a breeder of silkworms, a glass-blower, a stone carver, you may sit in the class of our grandparents, enjoy the fair of yesteryear. But avoid the aquarium of Périgord next, it is a scam, you do not see anything else but the sturgeons and water!
A show of falconry at the castle of Josephine Baker, Les Milandes.
The pool Belvès a municipal pool, not covered, surrounded by nature, it is designed for the children, there is a picnic place, ping-pong, tennis…
