Location description

Olvera is a hill top town with a population of approximately 10,000. The main church and the Moorish castle both in an elevated positioncan be seen for miles around and are an attraction for tourists both international and national. Tourists are keen to learn about the history of these monuments and also to enjoy the spectacular views from their respective vantage points.

The church was built in 1822 on the foundations of a small Andalucian Moorish style church. When it was finished in 1843 it was deemed to be one of the greatest churches of the province with dimensions worthy of a cathedral. The restored and renovated castle is situated adjacent to the church and has a tourist information office

There are numerous friendly barsand cafes for people to sample the local fare and enjoy the food and drink in an unhurried way without any pressure from the proprietors to vacate the table. Cooking at home is no problem due to the numerous local shops dotted around all within walking distance.
Olvera is renowned for it's olive oil

Other activities

Swimming in the summer months available in the public pool and lake Zahara where there is a man made swimming area.
The via verde commences in Olvera. This is an excellent 38 km long walking,cycling,horse riding route passing through breath taking scenery
Olvera and surronding area is a haven for bird watchers and field trips can be arranged with a local guide
