Offering a discreet private home, very well appointed the Maison Cathar is lovingly maintained by its owner, with decorative fitting from both the US and Europe of the highest quality.

The house has a large courtyard with separate private swimming pool overlooked from a further higher terrace. The terrace has Cypress trees, Mediterranean plants and shrubs, and again maintains its period charm.

The accommodation over three floors includes two entrances both main and to the kitchen from the exterior terrace.

The ground floor has a fully fitted kitchen breakfast room, separate dining room, short hall with stairs and understairs cupboard, and lounge with English and French tv channels.

The stone balustraded staircase rises to the first floor with two bedrooms. The first is more of a suite having its own lounge with chaise longue, a king size double bedroom, and ensuite with shower, WC, wash hand basin and bidet. The 2nd bedroom is a twin with 2 single beds and an ensuite bathroom with bath, WC and wash handbasin.

On the second floor are two further bedrooms. Again a further suited bedroom, with lounge, then separate double bedroom with twin beds (2 singles) an ensuite bath room with bath, WC and wash handbasin.

The further double bedroom also has two singles, with ensuite bath and WC with wash handbasin.

The courtyard has table and chairs with sunshades as well as sun loungers and a barbecue.

There is also a discrete area behind the pool with shower and WC.

Location description

A large very well appointed house in a private courtyard with its own private swimming pool, in a quiet village surrounded by vineyards and the hills of the Corbieres. There are local shops in the village (grocers, bakers, chemist, butchers, post office, etc) and a bar. Local restaurants within 5 minutes drive in surrounding villages.

Carcassonne 20 mins from airport, and of course the fortified city where Kevin Costner starred in the Robin Hood movie, all summer long festivals and cultural events, restaurants and golf. The Cathar castles are on the doorstep, as well as the Pyrennees mountains. Lagrasse, 25 min, is one of the most beautiful villages in France and offers spectacular scenery and a huge choice of restaurants for a memorable night out. Good shopping also.

Mediterranean beaches 40 mins drive and onwards. These are long and sandy from Montpellier down to the Spanish border. Some with free summer beach festivals in the evenings, tasteful entertainments and beachfront restaurants and cafés. The 'Etang de L'Ayrolle' offers some of the best windsurfing in Europe.

Wine tasting everywhere, numerous private caves and roadside vendors. Beautiful vineyards (Corbieres, Minervois and Fitou) and impressive valleys and rivers. Visit the town of Limoux for its famous sparkling wine. Don't miss the Canal du Midi for walking and cycling. Lake swimming and rafting just north of Carcassonne. Enjoy the natural springs at Aix-les-Bains and treat yourself to an extravagant lunch across the Spanish border. Or venture to Barcelona (2hrs 30 mins) for a long weekend. Fantastic and spectacular scenery along the Côte Vermaille and the lovely beach resorts and harbour at Collioure and Banyuls.

Local events

The city of Carcassonne has all summer long events, including many major international stars appearting during the summer months. The largest and one of the most spectacular firework and festival events of course to celebrate Bastille day every July takes place in Carcassone against the backdrop of the city walls.

Tourist attractions

Carcassonne, the Cathar castles and history, the mountains of the Pyrennees, the beaches of the Mediterranean, as well of course as the Spanish border on the doorstep. Not forgetting historic Roman Narbonne, Beziers and its cathedral, Albi, and of course Toulouse and its Space exhibitions.
