Description of holiday house in Meyrals, Aquitaine

Tilleul is the largest of 5 gites at Le jardin des Amis - a renovated former farm. The house is built in the golden stone which typifies the architecture of the Dordogne. The interior of the house is very light and airy, due to it's open-plan layout. The house is ideal for two families of four or maybe a family & grandparents.

The ground floor comprises:
* kitchen area - well equipped including a large capacity 5 burner gas cooker, microwave oven, kettle, coffee maker, toaster & dishwasher and a good range of utensils.

* dining area with table and chairs to seat 8 - 10, dresser with ample crockery and glasses to cater for more than 1 meal for 8 people.

* the living area has comfortable seating for 8 + people ( including a sofa-bed which can sleep two extra guests on request) occasional furniture, lamps, combined TV / DVD player and mp3 compatible radio / CD player.

The first floor comprises:
* 2 double bedrooms both with wardrobe / dressing table / chest of drawers / bedside table / bedside lamps
* bathroom with bath/shower wash-hand basin and toilet

The second floor:
* 1 very large 'vaulted ceiling' bedroom with exposed oak beams and a large ensuite shower room with wash-hand basin and toilet.

There are 4 single beds and two clothes-hanging/shelf units. The room has full length windows at one end with views over the local area.

All windows have child safety devices and there is a stairgate at the top of the stairs. There is plenty of room for a cot or a camp bed for an extra child (on request when booking).

Kitchen/Utility:	Oven, Hob, Grill, Fridge, Freezer, Microwave, Kettle, Toaster, Coffee maker, Dishwasher, Washing machine, Ironing board, Iron The washing machine & ironing equipment is housed in a seperate building and shared with other guests. Each gite has a clothes horse and washing lines/pegs are at the disposal of all guests.

Location description

Dramatic rock faces, sparkling rivers, green valleys, Chateaux, medieval villages, prehistoric caves and brilliant sunlight. The Dordogne, has been described by some as paradise. As you pass fields of sunflowers and corn and marvel at castles towering at the top of cliffs you begin to understand why!

The region is dominated by pre-history, beautiful architecture and gastronomy. Whether you wish to visit the local caves with their drawings dating back 20,000 years (The Font de Gaume is a UNESCO world heritage site at Les Eyzies), discover the castles and bastides of the Dordogne; canoe and then picnic on the banks of the Vezere or Dordogne rivers, taste the excellent wines from Bergerac & Cahors, ‘Le Jardin des Amis’ is at the heart of it all.

The local markets sell some of the best produce France has to offer: the beautiful town of Sarlat having one of the biggest markets in the SW.

During the main summer season many evening markets are also held, often with live music and hot food stalls.
