Description of holiday house in Lairoux, Pays de la Loire

Le Vieux Café is set in the beautiful Vendée countryside, in the small village of Lairoux. This is only a 10-minute drive to the cathedral town of Luçon where you will find many shops, supermarkets and restaurants. The safe sandy beaches of La Faute and La Tranche sur Mer are only 20 minutes away. The area has an excellent hiking and cycling network.

The House contains many period features along with a modern fully equipped kitchen. There is also a private al fresco seating and BBQ area in front of the house. In the extensive gardens you will find a 12 x 7 metre heated pool (shared with one other 2 bedroomed gite), a boules court and a large garden area to explore.

This property boasts lots of period features and at the turn of the 20th Century it was the hub of village life - being the local café and restaurant. The living room contains a large bookcase - with all types of holiday reading and there is also a laptop with secure wireless internet access. The sofa can also be used as an extra bed, as it folds out into a large sofa bed.

There are three bedrooms (1 double bedroom with cot, 2 twin rooms, and an extra single bed available if needed).

There are two bathrooms - the ground floor one has just been renovated with a new shower, WC and hand basin and the first floor bathroom has a full-sized bath, overhead shower, hand basin and separate WC.

For guests with young children, we have stair gates both at the top and bottom of the stairway and we can also provide a cot, baby bath, changing mat, highchair and lots of plastic utensils.

The garden is set on four levels with the top level containing the large courtyard for parking, a grassy area for relaxation and a boules court for your amusement. A gentle slope then takes you down to the enclosed 12m x 7m heated swimming pool where you can relax in the sun. For children we also have lots of inflatables.

Beyond the swimming pool and down a few steps you’ll find our organic vegetable garden, where only the hardworking should venture! Beyond the vegetable garden lies the extensive lower garden where the children can run & play in safety. There is a picnic bench amongst the fruit trees, and in the evening you can watch the sun set over the Marais and listen out for the extensive range of birds that live in the gardens – including the Barn Owls!

The games room is situated opposite the pool area and is available for all guests to use during their stay. You will find many amusements here, such as table tennis, table football, board games, books, huge DVD library, and a TV area with Xbox 360 and many games. Paints, pencils & crayons are also supplied, and children can pin their works on the ‘Wall of Fame’

There is also extensive tourist information provided in the games room.

Deposit/Booking Notes: Prices are per week and include all linens and towels, except pool towels.

In order to secure your booking we ask that you firstly check for availability, then complete the online Booking Form on our website & finally send a 30% non-refundable deposit for the total cost of the holiday. A £100 Security deposit is required & this should be sent along with the final payment 8 weeks prior to the start of your holiday.

Cancellation prior to final payment will only incur the loss of deposit; cancellation with less than 8 weeks to go will incur full loss of payment if we are unable to rent out to gite to other people.

Payment can be made in Sterling or Euros either by cheque or direct bank transfer.

Location description

The house is set in the small village of Lairoux, only a 10 minute drive from the lovely town of Luçon with many bars, restaurants and shops.
It is also only a 15 minute drive from the sandy beaches of the Southern Vendée.
A 40 minute drive will bring you to the lively port of La Rochelle - a great place to spend a day or an evening - with good restaurants and many events throughout the year.

Other activities

For the brave, there is a fantastic day out to be had at the Indian Forest AdventurePark - where you can swing through trees and fly over a lake!

Local events

In summer the local towns of Luçon, La Tranche and La Faute all host a variety of events, including musical evenings, fireworks and markets selling regional produce.
