Description of holiday house in La Herradura, Andalucia

El Refugio is a well built house with a seperate annex on the lower ground floor. It sits in its 2,500sqm grounds of mature trees. It has large sun terraces on all sides except the north, and these provide shade throughout the day. The main feature of the house is its large 'infinity' pool (10.5mx5m) which is gated. The house itself comprises two double bedrooms both en-suite. The Annex has three double bedrooms (one ensuite) with an additional bathroom next to the other bedrooms. The main house has a large kitchen, drawing/diningroom but summer life is on the main terrace which has a good built-in Barbecue which is adjacent to the kitchen. The Annex has its own kitchenette and sitting room. There is parking space for at least five cars and the village is within five minutes by car. The house caters for the disabled with large doorways and a single step to enter the house and reach the main terrace. There is maid service (two days a week for 4 hours) and a pool attendant twice a week. As the house is used a s home for nine months of the year, guests are able to enjoy the large selection of books, satellite TV, furnishings etc associated with a home as opposed to holiday villas.

Location description

El Refugio is the home of Sculptor Brian O'Rorke. It is only available for the summer months. The house sits on the secluded San Carlos spur overlooking La Herradura in its own 2,500sqm garden of mature trees. Apart from the numerous beaches in the area, the attractions within an hour's drive include Malaga (Picasso Museum), Granada (Alhambra), Nerja (caves), and mountains (Alpujarras)(Sierra Nevada). This allows for a beach holiday, sightseeing or walks.

Other activities

La Herradura bay is famous for it diving but individuals need to be qualified.

Directions

EasyJet/Ryanair/Monarch/Thomson flights to Malaga are the best. You need a car/hirecar if you rent El Refugio. From Malaga Airport take the Autovia 340 eastwards for La Herradura. At the La Herradura exit take the N340A for La Herradura. At the first set of traffic lights continue up hill towards Almunecar for 1 km where you take a 'Cambio Sentido' (roundabout) to cross road and return towards La Herradura. At KM 309 you turn right and proceed up hill for 800 metres till you reach a T junction. Here you turn right and El Refugio is the first house on right.
