Description of holiday house in Competa, Andalucia

Our traditional 2 bedroom village house is situated in Competa, a traditional Andalucian village backing the Sierra de Almijara mountains, about one an a half hours from Malaga airport. On the ground floor, there is a comfortable lounge with TV (+sat Eng), small steps leading to modern kitchen with separate dining room. The twin and double bedrooms are on the next floor with the roof terrace and bathroom on the 3rd floor with superb views over the rooftops and mountains. Relax on the roof terrace at sunset enjoying a pre dinner drink.

The village is really welcoming with friendly bars and restaurants, many with live music. Also 2 local pools, 1 covered . A perfect location, quiet side street yet close to shops restaurants and main square. Internet cafes and WIFI available. Hikes and walks in the sierras, tours, tennis and horse riding close by. Convenient for discovering pueblos blancos (whitewashed villages) of Axarquia, and only 1.5 hours from Granada with renown Alhambra 10C.

We have tried to include all things that you might need on holiday, including a variety of books and games. Videos and DVD's can be hired locally from a number of shops and although internet is not available at the house, there is WIFI in several cafes + 3 internet cafes. The TV is free to air UK satellite (ie not Sky Sports) but with a wide variety of channels and Spanish ones. Hikes and walks in sierras, pottery courses, relaxing massages and relexology, tennis, horseriding as well as trips out arranged via the tourist office. A bus leaves for the coast and Malaga 3 times a day so it is possible to come on holiday here without hiring a car, although to have one is a good idea to explore the lovely countryside and interesting traditional Spanish villages which are steeped in history. Parking is in the main car park only 5 mins away. Hot pastries and cooked breakfast 5 mins away!

Location description

Axarquia is a most beautiful part of Andalucia, Spain, with a view of wild and impressive mountain areas, comprising of terraced hillsides and fertile valleys. Perfect to discover by car, or on foot with hikes and walks into mountains (sierras) direct from the village. The highest point goes up to 2000 metres with Mount Mahoma. The countryside is beautiful with its orchards of citrus and avocados, and of course olive trees watered by a unique Moorish irrigation system that was developed over a thousand years ago. Plenty of Moorish history to see in Andalucía, in the surrounding unspoilt whitewashed villages, and the villagers still enjoy a traditional way of life and you can fantastic local food. Some of what you can enjoy: local beaches (18km away) with or without amenities; horse riding in the mountains; water adventure park in Velez ; regular markets in surrounding villages; Malaga: museums, history and shopping; famous caves in Nerja with summer music concerts; quad bikes; Granada (under 2 hours away) with the famous Alhambra palace, maybe even skiing! In Competa itself: 2 pools available indoor and outdoor, pottery courses, relaxing massages and reflexology, tennis, wide variety of restaurants. WIFI in many restaurants and bars, and 3 internet cafes.
