Description of holiday house in Carros Village, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur

The little house is delightful and has seduced all our guests with its great charm. Fairly typically for a village house, it is on four floors with one room on each (starting from the bottom: the kitchen, the first room , the bathroom and the second room). Again typically, this glorious medieval town is stepped so not suited to anyone with mobility problems.

If a single couple, you can use one of the bedrooms (both with v. comfortable sofa beds) as a sitting room, otherwise your common space is the kitchen - which has a good-sized table and chairs around it, a wood-burning stove, and is well equipped.

A medieval retreat on this hilltop surrounded by pines and only 20 minutes from Nice, you will live the village life. Our tenants come back again and again and become friends!

The woodburning stove and plug in radiators will keep you warm in winter whilst the thick stone walls mean you sleep well at night in summer when others less fortunate are sweltering on the coast!

Though there are buses running the route, a vehicle is highly desirable.

Available for minimum periods of two weeks.

Location description

This is a spot of great beauty, among the hills and one of the most genuine and charming little villages in the region, unspoilt by tourist traps or hoards of visitors. Now converted, medieval stone houses are inhabited largely by local people who take great pride in their village and come together (welcoming the relatively few 'outsiders') for all sorts of feasts: the local saint, several harvests, etc. A great atmosphere, good walks in the vicinity a museum in your backyard!

Less than half an hour's drive to the coast and all its fabulous beaches.

Local events

The local 'Marie' keeps the village 'Comité des Fêtes' (or Committee for Festivities) very busy with many events throughout the year but especially during the spring/summer and autumn months. Food, wine, music, dancing, fireworks - and an opportunity to mingle with the villagers.

Tourist attractions

Both along the coast and in the hills, too numerous to list. Vence and St Paul de Vence are under half an hour away. And of course Nice with both cultural and popular entertainment for grownups and kids.

Directions

From Nice follow direction DIGNE/GRENOBLE towards Carros, then over a railway bridge and follow Carros Village for the last 3 kilometers through pine forests. Park the car at the foot of the village, then climb to the top. The little house is on the main road, called Rue du Château (or Carriero du Casteu in the local Niçois), moments away from the old Castle, now International Centre for Modern Art.
