Boussais Country House
(1/6)
Description of holiday house in Boussais, Poitou-Charentes
Bed & Breakfast
Each of our luxury ensuite bedrooms have been graded by Gite de France as a good three epis, meaning rooms of great comfort and style with quality linens & fittings. Each bedroom has a wonderful view of the long front garden and potager and into the surrounding fields and countryside.
The Master Guest Room (Chambre de maitre)
The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and seating for two people. Dark wood flooring and furniture, crisp linen, white walls and an original black marble fireplace, giving it a colonial feel. The double aspect large windows make this room light and airy, with a wonderful view of the front garden and into neighbouring fields.
This room has a large, luxurious ensuite bathroom with a modern free standing bath and a large walk-in drencher shower finished with marble tiles and darkwood fittings and a large chrome heated towel radiator. Spoil yourself with a long soak, or an invigorating shower.
The Magnolia, Wisteria & Hawthorne Rooms
Each of these three rooms has an extra large kingsize bed (160cm wide) for a relaxing nights sleep. One of them has an additional small antique double bed (120cms), so this room can be used as a triple room, or for two under 10's sharing with parents, if needed. The other two rooms have sofa beds that can be used for up to two children and used as a family room if required. Just telephone, or email your requirements and we will try our best to accommodate you. Each bedroom has its own seating area, the ideal place to relax after a day in the countryside, or sightseeing.
Sparkling ensuite shower rooms with modern fittings and fluffy white towels, sparkling white porcelain sinks and heated towel radiators for added comfort.
A cot is available free of charge in any of the rooms.
Breakfast
A generous continental breakfast is served each morning. A choice of cereals, toast, croissants, honey and jams, often homemade, are accompanied by fresh fruit, yoghurts and free-range eggs and a selection of juice, teas and coffee. Location description
The Poitou-Charentes has so much to offer. Something for everyone of all ages, from walking to water-skiing, medieval castles to futuristic theme parks and not forgetting all the good food and drink.
The area has such a wide range of things to see and do that it would be impossible to mention them all here. So here are some of the highlights of the area.
The Deux-Sevres is part of the Poitou-Charentes region and located just South of the Loire Valley region. Therefore, within easy reach of many chateaux and the wine producing areas of Anjou and Touraine.
Boussais is centrally situated between Parthenay, Bressuire and Thouars. Each of the towns has retained charm and character with small cobbled streets, walled ramparts and medieval buildings giving a wonderful background to the weekly markets that buzz with a life of their own.
Parthenay is a small lively town with many cafes, restaurants and shops. It is a favourite of mine where you can wander through the cobbled streets lined with medieval half timbered houses. It is also home to many festivals and fairs throughout the year, starting with the Easter fair and parade and others which include a games fair in July when the streets are lined with 3000 hand games, in which you are invited to participate.
A 10 minute drive from us is the Lac du Cebron, where it is possible to do watersports, swim, or just enjoy a picnic in the open air. A little further afield are the swimming lakes at Moncontour, which has its own beaches with play areas and a lake view restaurant and bar. It is ideal for children and adults. Here you can hire pedaloes and canoes, or have a go a teleskiing on the lake.
Tourist attractions
The theme parks of Fururoscope and Puy du Fou are about 45 minutes away.

Directions
By Air
The nearest Airport is at Poitiers, which is about 45 minutes away. This airport is used by Ryanair from Stansted and Birmingham.
There are three other airports that are about 90 minutes away. These are Nantes, Tours and La Rochelle. These Airports are used by many airlines from many UK airports. The airlines using these airports are Ryanair, Flybe and Jet2.
I use a good flight checker on http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/. Go to the travel section and click onto the flight checker. It saves having to put the same details in repeatedly and gives the best prices.
By Car/ Ferry
It will take about 4-5 hours by car if you are travelling from the ferry ports of Caen, Cherbourg, St Malo or Roscoff and about 6 hours from Calais and Boulogne.
From Calais/Boulogne we take the A16, then the A28 to Le Mans and onto the A11 towards Angers, but then join the A85 to Saumur. From Saumur it is the N147 passing Thouars and we are about 20km south of Thouars. Come off the N147 when you see the signs for D725 (Airvault, La Maucarriere, Boussais). Then follow the directions below to find us in the village.
If coming from Saumur, Poitiers direction - When you arrive at the village take the first road on the left (rue de la daviere) and then the first road on the right (rue des tilleuls) and the house is in front of you on the left hand side.
If coming from Nantes, Bressuire direction - In the village, pass the square with the mairie and bar/restaurant and after the church take the first road on the right (rue de la daviere) and then the next right (rue des tilleuls) and the house is in front of you on the left.
Park at the side of the house.
