Description of holiday house in Autignac, Languedoc-Roussillon

The house has a front courtyard with well, gravelled for parking although most park in the road outside which is a no through road, the front door leads to the large through lounge dining room with access via a side door to kitchen breakfast room. A set of double rear doors lead to the rear courtyard with swimming pool and terrace.

A door from the rear of the kitchen gives access to a smaller side courtyard with barbecue and seating area, with a separate stone annexe with bedroom with bunk beds and an en suite shower room with WC, from which a further rear door leads to the rear courtyard.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms one with queen size bed and one with twins and a family shower room with wash handbasin and WC. There is a child gate for the stairs and cots and highchair can be provided at a small charge.

There are including the front courtyard, three courtyards, with this property including a completely private rear courtyard where the 6 x 4 metres above ground swimming pool and terrace is located. There is also a further side courtyard, also private with barbecue.

The house has been completely renovated and enjoys a priviledged position at the end of a no through road with courtyards. The largest to the rear being completely private and with swimming pool and outside dining area. Just a short stroll to the centre of the village with its shops, restaurant/bar, bakers, butchers, grocers, papershop, post office and of course church and winemakers who enjoy people tasting there local wines (except during their lunch!!) A large supermarket and several restaurants are just a few minutes drive away and the village has all facilities including doctors, dentists, chemist, etc

Within a drive of a less than two hours are the walled city of Carcassone, the Roman arenas in Nimes and the Roman aqueduct at the Pont de Gard, the cathar castles, the long stretches of the Mediterranean, skiing in the Pyrenees. And for serious shoppers Beziers, Montpellier and Even Barcelona is within a short car trip.

Payment can be made in €'s or £sterling in the UK or France. Or via credit card using Paypal. Booking subject to return of booking form, along with 33% deposit. Balance and refundable security bond payable 4 weeks prior to arrival. Mid June to end August Saturday only changeover days with midweek to midweek possible the rest of the year. Security Bond required of £270 or 300€.

Location description

Autignac nestles in the vineyards of Faugeres wine region, on the rolling hills below the Languedoc National Park and Mountains. Close by are the stone windmills of Faugeres looking out across the Mediterranean plain to the sea. There are many places of interest to visit locally, including Beziers and Pezenas, with their year round fetes and historic streets. Slightly further afield are the Pyrennees Mountains, Carcassone and its walled city, Nimes and its Roman amphitheatre and the Pont du Gard, the roman aqueduct. If your driving down to the Languedoc, why not stop off and view after you have crossed it the Millau bridge, the worlds highest bridge. And close by of course are the long sandy Mediterranean beaches, interspersed with sea lagoons where flamingoes bathe and feed. Or even closer to Autignac is the Canal du Midi, visit the 9 locks at Beziers, built by hand in the 16th century the canal is now a world heritage site, crossing France to link the Mediterranean to the Atlantic.

Local events

Autignac is one of many villages with its fetes, in the local area. Beziers has year round fetes and festivals, the major one in mid August being the feria, a 5 day festival. Fetes start in February with the Mimosa festival in Roquebrun and run throughout the year to Xmas. The tour de France passes through the region almost every year.

Tourist attractions

The Cathar history of Beziers and the Cathar region, the cobbled streets of Pezenas, the markets in all the local towns, the Canal du Midi, there are several long sandy beaches, the amusement park at Vias, the aqua park at Cap D'Agde, golf courses in Lamalou, Beziers and Agde. The international canoeing on the river Orb at Reals. Or visit the forests, gorges, and lakes of the Languedoc National Park.
