Travelling By Car
From the South (Kendal) Take junction 36 off the M6 motorway.
Follow the signs for the A591 sign posted Windermere, Kendal & South Lakes.
Travel on this road for approximately 8 miles until you drop down to a large roundabout.
At the roundabout carry straight on the A591. Follow this road for approx. 7 miles until you reach Windermere village. Carry on the road, past Windermere, towards Ambleside.
You will approach a very mini roundabout, carry straight on at this point, still heading towards Ambleside.
On reaching Ambleside, (approximately 4/5 miles) you will come to a set of traffic lights. Go straight through these and keep going.
Follow the signs for Grasmere and Keswick (A591) going through Ambleside Village. (This is a one way system - just follow the signs)
Once through the Village, Rydal is about 1 mile away. Look for a sign on the left for Crow Howe, go past, go along some double bends on the road and look for the sign for Rydal, which is on the left hand side. Just around the next bend, (50 metres), there is a stone bridge (Pelter Bridge) which is sign posted "Under Loughrigg". Turn left over this bridge, turn immediately right, go over a cattle grid, up a hill, past the car park, and Cote How is on the right hand side.
From the North (Keswick) Pick up the A591 at Keswick and head south towards Kendal. Go through Grasmere and approximately 3 miles further you will pass the Glen Rothay Hotel and Badger Bar on the left hand side. Continue past Rydal Lodge on the right and look out for a small fingerpost on the right hand side sign posted "under Loughrigg". Turn right here passing over the stone bridge (Pelter Bridge). See above for remainder.
