Not far from Abene, in the region Casamance, is a beautiful nature area with mangroves, bolongs (sea inlets) and islands located. A visit to this area is an unforgettable experience. This island area is only reachable by boat through the bolongs of the Casamance which are surrounded by mangroves. In this hidden world you are surrounded by silence and the exuberant beauty of nature.
Ziguinchor, The Nearest Large City
South of Abene at about 100 kilometers from our hotel is the city of Ziguinchor. It is the largest city of southern Senegal and has about 100.000 inhabitants. It's on the river Casamance and is surrounded in the south and north by mangrove swamps (Bolongs).
Sea Fishing
If you like sea fishing during your holidays, Abene is the right place to go. Abene is a fishers village.
You will accompany a fisherman from Abene on their special 'piroque' (boat). You can do your own fishing as well as watch how the local fishermen work. You do need to bring your own rod.
Spotting typical West
African Birds
You can learn a lot about the typical birds of West Africa when you go on a guided tour with the local birdexpert. For birders this is a great opportunity to accompany this birdexpert because he is one of the most famous bird experts in Senegal. He has also worked with the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. He brings you to the most exquisite spots of the south of Senegal and can really tell you anything and everything about every bird.
