Living up to expectations

Beautifully renovated upstairs apartment in historic Carcassonne with charming roof terrace - we enjoyed our coffee and croissants there every morning of our stay (the bakery is just along the street!). Great central location so shops, supermarkets and fabulous local food markets are on your doorstep, along with wonderful restaurants to suit all budgets - the owners provide helpful info on good places to eat as well as what to see and do. The famous castle (a World Heritage site) is walking distance too, so a car is unneccessary unless you want to venture further afield. Do take a trip to the nearby lake where the water makes for a very refreshing swim (you can catch a bus), or cruise the canal like we did, taking in the sights. I loved the apartment - very comfortable and tastefully renovated. Well maintained, too. Two points worth noting: the stairs are a little steep so not so good if you have any mobility problems and if you do have a car you can't park outside - you can load/unload but then have to drive to a car park further away. We were there for a week and had time to discover the surrounding countryside and take a drive down to the Med for some sea and sand (about 45mins - 1hr), as well as exploring this fascinating town. I can totally recommend this charming apartment for your holiday - it's great value, met all our expectations and the owners do their utmost to make your stay memorable.
