Description of holiday gite near Sarlat-la-Caneda, Aquitaine

Domaine des Balagyeres is set in eight acres of fields and woodlands, it is very rural, quite and tranquil location. It is only 6kms or 5 minutes away from the big, medieval town called Sarlat-la-Caneda which has lots of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. Sarlat-le-Caneda also has pharmacies, doctors, dentists and a hospital for any emergencies.

Domaine des Balagyeres has got a large swimming pool, sauna and jaccuzzi for shared use of the guests. Around the swimming pool area are loungers, parasols, tables, chairs and inflatables for the swimming pool. There is also a play area for children, badminton and football net, with equipment provided.

We have one stone built gite which can sleep up to 5 people that overlooks the swimming pool. There are also three purpose built chalets with veranders situated in the meadow, two can sleep 5 people and one can sleep 7 people. All properties are equipped with cooking facilities, dishwashers, fridges and walk-in showers. All bedlinen and towels are provided but not for the swimming pool. All properties have a portable BBQ.

Location description

Domaine des Balagyeres is idealy situated in a location where it is possible to access many activities. There are lots of historical chateaux to visit such as Chateau Milandes, Castle Naud, Chateau Beynac and Rocamadour and many others. There are also caves close by as well such the Lascaux caves, De Cazelle, Gouffre de Padirac and les Grottes de Maxange. The Dordogne river is only 15 minutes away from Domaine des Balagyeres and offeres boats trip, canoeing and kayaking and there are some lovely sceninc villages along the river banks. There is a zoo close by for familes as well as an aquarium and a bowling alley. There are many pretty historic villages close by such as Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Beynac, Sarlat-le-Caneda all with markets on different days.

Local events

Once a year there is the festival of lights in Sarlat. In this festival they light 10,000 tea-lights. There is also the National French day in July and Sarlat celebrates with a festival and firework display.Once a month in Saint Andre D'allas there is a oppertunity for people to try meat and other delicious food from the region.

Directions

There are good budget airlines flying regularly in to Bergerac airport with numerous car hire offices that you can find on site at the airport. Brive is a new airport and at this moment in time only Air France flies in from certain airports in England. Limoges has a large airpost with car hire available at the airport and has lots of companies flying to it. From all the airports there are signs to Sarlat-la-Caneda. There is a trainline that goes into Sarlat thats links up to many major cities in France. Once in Sarlat visitors will need to take the D57 towards Bergerac, on that road is a big supermarket called Casino. Opposite that supermarket is a road ( D25) sign posted to La Bugue, approximatly 5 kms there is a turning on the left signposted to Saint Andre D'allas. Follow the road trough the village down to the bottom of the hill, here you will meet a junction of three roads, take the right hand road signposted to Domaine des Balagyeres.
