Description of holiday gite in La Haye Du Puits, Normandy

The Gîte is part of a longère, which was built in 1850. Originally four houses, three of which consist of the main property, which is occupied by the English owners who live there. The fourth was renovated in 2008 to create the Gîte. This has been done to a very high standard by local artisans, retaining many of its original features, including a beautifully restored original open fireplace with an inset woodburning stove for those cosy nights by the fire.

The beautiful, spacious furnished living room is fully equipped to make your stay as relaxing as possible.

Good sized kitchen/diner, is well equipped for all your self catering needs, including oven, hob, fridge and microwave.

Large downstairs family bathroom with separate shower cubicle, wash basin, toilet, shaving point and heated towel rail.

The spacious master bedroom has been tastefully decorated with original exposed wooden beams. It is fully furnished with a double bed, bedside cabinets, chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The second bedroom is a twin room, furnished with twin beds, bedside cabinet and shelf storage. Good quality mattresses have been provided to guarantee a good night’s sleep, ready for the day ahead.

Location description

La-Haye-Du-Puits is a pretty town which hosts the local market on a Wednesday. The houses are painted in different colours along the high street and has an abundance of floral decoration. For those of you who enjoy cycling and walking, you could perhaps take a cycle ride along the many miles of the Green route cycle / footpath picking up the Velo Vert route from La Haye Du Puits.

We are only 10 minutes away from the nearest beach on the west side of the Cotentin peninsula, 40 minutes from Utah beach, and under an hour to Omaha Beach, two of the famous Normandie D-Day landing beaches. We are ideally situated for St Mere Eglise, Pointe Du Hoc, The Bayeux Tapestry, Le Mont Saint Michel and Villedieu-les-Poeles, famous for its copper making, to name but a few of the many attractions that Basse-Normandie has to offer.

Whether you have an interest in the military, museums, beaches, water sports, bird watching, walking, golf, traditional French craft towns or antique shops, you will find it here in Basse-Normandie.

If you do have pets that need to be seen by a vet before returning back to the UK, there are 2 very good vets in La Haye du Puits who we can recommend. However, if you would like us to make the appointment on your behalf, please advise us of your departure date and time of ferry when booking and we shall make the necessary arrangements.

Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen, approx 1 hour 30 minutes by car.

LD lines (www.ldlines.co.uk/) from Portsmouth to Le Harvre, approx 2 hours 15 minutes away by car.

Flights are available from UK to Dinard Airport, which is approximately 2 hours away by car and in the summer flights are also available from Southampton to Cherbourg. Car hire is available at these airports.

We are very easily accessible by train. Our nearest station is 20 minutes away at Carentan, which has good network links to all destinations, including Paris.
