Description of holiday gite near Carcassonne, Languedoc-Roussillon

"Na Indra" is one of three gorgeous gîtes of our home "Les Bergeries du Cabardès", two beautifully converted barns where mellow character and lovely old stone walls are allied to contemporary light, and creature comforts. We face south towards the Pyrenees, and so revel in the sun from dawn to dusk ....as long as it's not cloudy!

"Na Indra" is our 'coup de coeur', the ultimate in romantic hideaways, with its private access and spectacular roof terrace facing south to the Pyrenees. Beneath "Na Indra's" charming original roof beams, the loft-style layout, with a splendid open plan corner bath, a tucked-away loo, a breakfast bar and kitchenette), a chaise-longue ... and, of course, a double bed, creates a stylish interior cocoon.

The kitchenette is designed not to create gourmet meals (the Michelin starred restaurant 1.5 kms away does that to perfection) but for easy, leisurely holiday catering so you can enjoy champagne (or blanquette de Limoux, the local sparkling wine) breakfasts, midnight feasts, al fresco lunches and dinners, simple barbecues. It is equipped with a single induction hob, 2 small fridges, a microwave, electric kettle and a grill which can be used inside or on the terrace.

From "Na Indra's" terrace you look over the enchanting walled garden with its lovely pool to the fabulous chain of the Pyrennean summits (weather permitting). As "Na Indra" is on the first floor, with independent access via an external staircase, we consider it not suitable for the very young, the infirm or the elderly. On the other hand, our other two apartments, which are ground floor, have very easy access.

It's only a few minutes’ walk from our secure parking area to the heart of our village, Moussoulens, with its boules pitch, bakery, grocery, café and post office. Just a few kilometres away is the Canal du Midi, or charming Montolieu, village of books and arts. A ten minute car journey brings you to the edge of Carcassonne, and within a further five minutes you can be under the unforgettable walls of the world-famous medieval citadel. Ryanair runs flights to Carcassonne from a number of airports in the UK and Ireland (and from Belgium and some other European countries). Easy access (10 minutes) to the motorway (Bordeaux-Marseile). By train from Paris via Toulouse or Montpellier.
