Description of holiday gite in Berrien, Brittany

Ground Floor

The ground floor consists of an open plan room with a sitting room area at one end and a fully fitted kitchen at the other.
The sitting area has a woodburning fire, FreeSat TV, a DVD player and a CD/radio. There is a selection of English books and DVD's.

The kitchen has a stainless steel range cooker, fridge with a freezer compartment, microwave oven and a dishwasher. A large range of crockery and cooking dishes are provided including a food processor and juicer. Tea towels are peovided as well as basic herbs, spices and condiments.

A door leads from the sitting area into a large, double glazed conservatory with cane suite which overlooks the lawns and flower beds to the side of the house. A CD player is situated here.

There is a utility room with a washing machine, ironing board and iron.

The bathroom has recently been completely refitted and has a corner Jacuzzi bath, a shower cubicle with a power shower and a handbasin with shaver socket and hairdryer. The toilet is separate. Bathmats are provided.

First Floor

The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. A cot and high chair is available on request.

The cottage is heated by electric storage heaters and this is included in the price quoted for dates before 29 May and dates after 18 September.

Outside Space

To relax at the cottage there is a large, secluded garden laid to lawn and flower beds. Garden furniture, a sunshade and a BBQ are available for your use. There is a large, lockable shed behind the house to store bicycles.

We encourage wildlife into the garden with food, nesting boxes and plants attractive to butterflies and birds.

Location description

Ti Sioul is situated in a traditional french farming hamlet of about 16 houses within the Parc Natural d'Armorique. The small town of Huelgoat is a 5 minute drive away and here there are two supermarkets and a selection of shops including a butcher, two boulangeries (with patisseries to die for!), creperies and a Maison de la presse which sells English newspapers should you wish to take a glimpse back into reality during your stay. There are two banks with ATM's and a Post office.
Huelgoat is a pretty town built around a square which is home to the Thursday market which offers a wide range of locally produced food. Several bars surround the square where a pleasant hour can be spent watching the world pass by with a coffee or something stronger!!
There is a large lake and the surroundings are famous for the giant granite boulders and ancient woodlands.
The forest next to the town is said to be where King Arthur's treasure is buried. A rambling network of trails take walkers past caves, menhirs, long abandoned lead and silver mines and unusual geographical formations which include the precariously named Roche Tremblante. Maps and leaflets showing these walks are available from the tourist office in the town. The area is popular with both walkers and cyclists.
A well known Arboretum and botanic garden is on the outskirts of the town and there is also a centre for local honey, a public open air swimming pool and tennis courts and an equestrian centre providing hacks through the forest. Periodically, art and equestrian events are held in the town.

Directions

Huelgoat is in the department of Finistere which is in the Brittany region of France.
The coast is approximately a 45 minute drive away to the north, south and west and the towns of Quimper and Brest are about an hour away.
The port of Roscoff is 45 minutes away and St. Malo is 2 hours. Brittany Ferries sail to these ports from Plymouth and Portsmouth respectively and it may be possible for a discount to be available for the cost of the crossing. Low cost airlines fly into Brest and Dinard which are easy travelling distance with a hired car.
