Description of holiday gite Aquitaine

Set in a peaceful hamlet in the hills facing the picturesque village of Penne d’Agenais, and within easy reach of the riverside town of Villeneuve sur Lot. This charming house and barn were built some 200 years ago and have been delightfully renovated, still retaining many of the original features. The spacious and comfortably furnished accommodation can cater for up to 10 in the Gite.

La Croix de Loubas is surrounded by beautiful open countryside, woodland and, in the summer, fields of sunflowers and fruit trees. The large gardens extend to one acre, with an attractive variety of trees, shrubs, and a large lawned area, ideal for outdoor games. Relax by the 10 x 5m swimming pool or explore the local villages and countryside at your leisure. Nearby is the River Lot with a variety of water sports and facilities.

Accommodation

The Gite (Sleeps 10)
Each room still has the original beams, lending a quaint and charming feel to the property.

The Ground floor which is tiled throughout has;
• A Spacious and comfortably furnished, open plan living room, dining area and well-equipped kitchen including dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, electric fan oven and separate gas hob, electric kettle and toaster. Satellite TV is available with a variety of English TV and radio channels. There is a log burner in the living room
• A Double bedroom with adjoining shower room, wc and basin, all on one level.
French doors lead out from the lounge onto a paved patio with table, chairs and a barbecue, overlooking the gardens and pool.

First floor:
A wooden staircase leads to the:
• 4 beamed bedrooms and hallway, which are carpeted throughout. There is a double bedroom, and 3 twin-bedded rooms.
• Bathroom with bath, basin and wc.

The Barn (sleeps 6)
Recently renovated to a high standard this provides light, airy and spacious accommodation.

Ground floor
The downstairs is tiled throughout, with a beamed ceiling and other original features.
• The comfortably furnished living room, dining room and kitchen are open plan and the kitchen is attractively separated from the lounge by the old wooden cattle stalls, which have been carefully restored to create a unique feature. It is fully equipped with all the modern essentials, including dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, electric fan oven and separate gas hob, electric kettle and toaster. The living room has a TV and DVD player.
• Shower room, with wc and basin.
French doors lead out to steps up to the gardens and pool.

First floor
A wooden staircase leads from the lounge to the:
• 3 bedrooms and hallway, which are carpeted throughout and retain the original 200-year-old beams. The double bedroom has a modern ensuite shower room with wc and there are 2 large, twin-bedded rooms.
• Bathroom with bath, wc and basin.

Location description

This beautiful region of southwest France, lying between Bordeaux to the west, Toulouse to the east, Bergerac to the north and Lourdes to the south, is a delightful, relatively undiscovered area. Off the beaten track the countryside is breathtaking. Steeped in history, ancient hilltop villages look out over beautiful, secret valleys. The area is scattered with farms and orchards, fields of sunflowers in early summer and ancient villages criss-crossed by quiet country lanes.
The vineyards of Duras, Buzet and Bergerac are all within easy reach. Bordeaux with its numerous chateaux and well-known wine producers is only 90 minutes away. You can enjoy fine restaurants with good local and traditional cuisine and the area is well known for producing plums and prunes.
There is golf at Castelnaud, an 18-hole championship course, and at Tombeboeuf there is a 9-hole golf course with practice area and a pro shop. Both golf courses have clubs, trolleys and buggies for hire.
There are various places on the River Lot where you can spend a day fishing, hire canoes or water ski. Locally there are riding stables and two lakes where you can swim, which have water sports facilities - Lac de Peyrat and Lac de Ferie. Villeneuve Tennis Club is open to everyone.
Both the Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees and its many ski resorts are a 2 hour 30 minutes drive away.
