Description of holiday farmhouse in Terrazzella, Umbria
This holiday rental for two at Vecchia Casa is decorated in the traditional rustic manner, using antique furniture, fittings and fabrics, even the lighting. We've also used natural stone and hand made cotto floor tiles, exposed beams and stone walls to give the apartment a cosy charm. It overlooks the beautiful rolling hills to the west where shepherds can be seen tending their flocks. In the garden there's a lovely covered terrace for relaxing or al-fresco dining. The apartment consists of:

The garden has another lovely shaded terrace with wonderful views, an old pig sty and garden forno (bread/pizza oven) This offers the unique chance to make your own pizzas.
There is also a small vegetable/herb patch outside the apartment for the use of guests. We share the organic produce from our garden and guest may help themselves to the fruit from our orchard.

Location description
Our hamlet rests on a low plateau surrounded by rolling hills covered in woodland, olive groves and vineyards. From the garden one can see the ruins of 4 castles, a reminder of Umbria's turbulent past. The views from the garden are wonderful, but so too are the walks which one can take from our hamlet in the surrounding countryside.Within minutes from our door wild boar roam the woods at night yet we are less than 30 minutes drive from the bustling town of Perugia.
Our nearest town, Tavernelle has a wide selection of supermarkets, banks, cafes, places to eat and a small local market on Mondays.
There are many wonderful ristoranti in the neighbouring towns and villages serving traditional Umbria dishes. We also have a gourmet ristoranti on a hill near the house.
We are located in the center of the area settled by the Etruscans and there are numerous archeological sites, tombs and structures, as well as museums to visit.
Vecchia Casa is in the area where Perugino was born and worked He died and is buried in a chapel in our neighbouring village. His works may be viewed in a number of local churches and the gallery in Perugia.
In the Basilica of St Frances in Assisi you may view the incredible series of frescos by Giotto and paintings by other notable artists.
Arezzo over the Tuscan border is home to the famous fresco cycle, the Legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesco.
Other activities
Mountain biking is popular and bikes may be hired in Tavernelle 8 minutes by car. Our hamlet is the start for many wonderful walks of various lengths.Umbria is renowned for its potholing
Nearby Lago Trasimeno has a bird sanctuary for migratory birds.
Local events
Throughout the year there are many festivals either to celebrate a religious event or a harvest. The religious procession of the crosses during Easter in Panicale is very beautiful.The harvest festivals celebrate everything from olive oil, chestnuts, mushrooms to chocolate and snails. Meals are available and often music and dancing. They are very traditional events and fun to watch and to participate.

Vecchia Casa is ideally located for visiting the sights in both Umbria and Tuscany which are all within easy reach.In Umbria:

Vecchia Casa is easy to reach, it's less than 45 minutes drive from Perugia Airport used by Ryanair.
Rome, Pisa and Florence airports are all 2 hours drive.
Chiusi in southern Tuscany. which is on the mainline is the nearest train station, about 30 minutes from our door.
There's a selection of car hire companies at all of the above airports and Chiusi.
There is a regular bus service running passed our hill to Perugia. You can park your car for free and have an enjoyable journey to and from Perugia by bus.
Our nearest town, Tavernelle has a wide selection of supermarkets, banks, cafes and a small local market on Mondays.
