Description of holiday farmhouse near Mauzens-et-Miremont, Aquitaine
A charming old stone property set within 5 acres of grounds.
Lovingly restored to provide high quality accommodation yet preserving the original character with old oak beams and the honey coloured stone of the region.
From the courtyard an arched doorway leads to a spacious room with two independent sitting areas one of which has a large oak table.
French windows open onto the south-facing terrace which overlooks the swimming pool and woods beyond, just the place for that pre-dinner drink.
A large well-equipped kitchen ideal for guests who love cooking with a door leading back onto the terrace.
Upstairs are three ensuite double bedded rooms (two with showers and one with bath) each individually furnished to a high standard and enjoying views over the garden and swimming pool.
The swimming pool is fenced for security and regularly checked and maintained. A lovely pool area non-slip paving with sunloungers and parasols for all. With its roman steps an ideal place to cool off and relax with a good book.
The owners live on site but in a seperate property so that guests enjoy their own privacy. Guests have exclusive use of the swimming pool. The owners are available should any problem or emergency occur.

To ensure that the house is clean and ready for our rental guests our arrival time is 4pm onwards and departure time is 10am.
A 25% Deposit is required to confirm the booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before the date of the holiday. In the event of a cancellation the Owners will make every effort to re-let the property.
A £200 Security Deposit is payable when the balance of the payment is due.
We suggest that our guests take out Holiday Travel Insurance for their protection.
We accept payment by sterling cheque drawn on a UK bank or a Euro cheque drawn on a French bank. Alternatively, a bank electronic transfer is fine.

Location description
Les Eyzies with its world famous prehistoric caves and cave paintings is just a few minutes drive as is the attractive market town of Le Bugue with its colourful Tuesday and Saturday morning markets. Sample the local cheese and Bergerac wines before making your choice or take a short drive and visit the town of Bergerac itself, set amidst its vinyards. The St Emilion and Bordeaux wine regions are a little further to the west.Both the region's capital town of Perigueux and medieval Sarlat are within easy reach. Explore their medieval quarters, with the lovely old buildings housing specialist shops, restaurants and pavement cafes where you can watch the world go by.
The Dordogne is renowned for its gastonomy with its foie gras and truffles famous throughout France and beyond. These delicacies are found on the menus of the restaurants which range from Michelin starred establishments to family-run restaurants and farm auberges offering genuine home-cooking based on local ingredients. Most of the restaurants also offer delicious salads and local fish so something for everyone.
Other activities
The region is popular with many artists so there are numerous craft shops, potteries, wood turning and art galleries to explore. Antiques/brocante markets take place at the weekends for those guests who cannot resist a bargain.Music is very important in the region with concerts held throughout the year especially in the summer months, After an early dinner sit in one of the wonderful old churches and listen to a classical concert or an evening of celtic music. There is even a concert in a local cave full of atmosphere with wonderful acoustics.
Take part in one of the many night markets buying your food and drink from the variety of stalls and then taking your place at the long tressle tables with fellow guests from all over the world.

There are so many things to do in the area and there is a good selection of brochures and tourist information in the house. The owners are also always happy to provide advice so that our guests get the most out of the area and their holiday.Tourist attractions
Within 15 minutesLes Eyzies a UNESCO designated site with the French National Museum of Prehistory. Many caves one of which is Font de Gaume a cave with wonderful cave paintings.
Hire a canoe at Les Eyzies and picnic on the Vezere either for a few hours, half day or if feeling energetic a full day.
Visit the Napoleonic Museum at Cendrieux pretty chateau owned by the Comte de Witte a descendant of Napoleon.
Golf La Marterie (only 5mins from the house), an 18 holf course in a woodland setting with a small bar/restaurant on site. Equipment hire possible. There are also a number of other Golf Clubs only a short drive away.
Go-karting at La Douze.
Le Bugue has an Aquarium of the Dordogne and nearby is Le Bournat a replica Perigordian village where you can watch traditional crafts being carried out.
On the outskirts of Le Bugue is the Gouffre de Proumeyssac, an awe-inspiring subterranean cavern with amazing rock formations.
Within 30 minutes
Limeuil one of the Plus Beaux Villages of France is strategically sited where the Dordogne and Vezere rivers meet. Collect your canoe and try out the Dordogne.
From Limeuil follow the road to Tremolat admiring the panorama of the Dordogne valley below. At Tremolat there are a number of restaurants including the Vieux Logis a Michelin starred restaurant.
A must to see is the medieval town of Sarlat.
En route to Montignac is the pretty Chateau of Losse literally over-hanging the river.
Then the lively riverside town of Montignac - just outside is the world famous Lascaux with its cave paintings - tickets only available in the centre of Montignac.
L' Appel de la Foret adventure park at Thenon - swing through the trees, ideal for all ages.
Within 1 hour
In Beynac walk up to the chateau one of the four baronies of the Perigord or take a trip on one of the old gabarres which used to take goods up and down the river. The slipway was used in the film Chocolat.
Les Milandes a chateau once home to Follies Bergeres star Josephine Baker, and her adopted family of "Rainbow Children" from all over the world. With music, costumes and memorabilia it is very unique tribute to her life. For bird watchers of another kind watch the falconery display whilst sitting on the garden walls of the chateau.
For a bird's eye view try hot air ballooning starting from La Roque -Gageac soaring high above the valley and its surrounding hills.
The cliff top town of Domme with its amazing views along the valley back to Richard the Lionheart's chateau at Beynac
The walled town of Monpazier, best preserved of the region's numerous bastide towns (many built during the Hundred Years War) with restaurants and craft shops surrounding its central market square. Just 10 minutes away is Chateau Biron another one of the baronies facing south at the very edge of the Dorodgne.
If garden are your passion, a flavour for you of the many gardens of the region are Marqueyssac, candle - lit on one evening per week, Eyrignac and the Jardins de l' Imaginaire.
Just over an hour away is the famous pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, precariously perched on the gorge of the river Alzou.

Directions
Although we are surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Perigord Noir communication is excellent.
We are just 20 minutes south of junction 16 of the A89 autoroute which start at Bordeaux and meets the A20 autoroute (main north-south route through France) at Brive, approximately an hour away.
There is also a network of other roads ranging from modern highways to winding country lanes and rural tracks so that you can easily access the many tourist attractions of the area and discover your own hidden gems.
The region is well-served by airports, the two closest being Bergerac and Brive which have low cost flights from all over the UK and northern Europe.
Bordeaux Airport is easily reached by autoroute and Limoges and Toulouse provide further options.
The TGV offers a fast rail link between Paris and Bordeaux .
Hire cars can be obtained from all of the airports and main railway stations with many airlines offering their clients a special deal on car hire. We are also happy to suggest websites which offer discounts.
