Description of holiday farmhouse in Cortona, Tuscany
La Mucchia, casa vacanze is an old farmhouse built in 1760 and one of the prettiest in Cortona, Tuscany. Originally constructed by a nobleman, it was recently restored by the new Italian owners using the same materials and original designs to create 9 charming apartments. The building is about 1000 square meters on three floors and stands on a terrain of 7000 square meters, at the foot of the Cortonese hills surrounded by agricultural fields. It is a lovely setting.
Each apartment has a unique and attractive style and design. They are all renovated in the traditional Tuscan decor with built-in ceramic Tuscan kitchens, old Florentine terracotta floors, red-stone and wooden exposed-beam ceilings, heavy wooden doors and windows with old-style handles and locks. All the entrance doors are double with the outside door made of wood and an inner door made of glass so they function as windows during the daytime. All the appartments have modern comforts including central heating, airconditioning, internet access, satelite television, and DVD players. The kitchens all have a refrigerator with freezer, two-burner stove top, combined oven-microwave, teakettle, coffeemaker, reverse-osmosis-waterfilter and all the necessary plates, dishes, glasses and cutlery.The furniture is in the old Tuscan style of "arte povera". The beds are queen-sized (160 by 190 cm) and have the traditional ornate cast-iron bed frames. The bathrooms are tiled in the characteristic blue and white ceramic and have a washbasin, a bidet, a toilet and a showerstall with a power showerhead. Most of the bathrooms are en-suite. To add to the beauty of each apartment, the owners have decorated each with original oil paintings from their own art gallery.....paintings of Tuscan landscapes and Tuscan lifescenes. These are very lovely apartments.
The apartments either have one bedrooom and sleep 2-4; or have 2 bedrooms and sleep 4-6. Several have convertible sofas for an extra 2 persons. Some apartments are located on the ground floor with access to the terrace, and others are on the first floor and may have a balcony. There is a studio on the top floor. By Car: traveling by car from the North, or South take the A1 Firenze - Roma highway (autostrada), exit at Valdichiana.(About 200 km from Rome and 60 km from Firenze) Follow the blue signs for Perugia and take the fastway (superstrada) exit at Cortona (do not exit at first sign to Cortona-Foiano) - follow directions to Cortona for 1.5 km till you see sign to the right “La Mucchia casa vacanza”, Continue on this road, After 0.8 km you will see a new sign to the left, follow this road for 1.9 km. till you will get to the house.
