Location description
Famous for Thomas Hardy and being a World Heritage site, there is so much to do and see in the area that it almost defies description.
The South west coastal Path and the Chesil Beach are at the end of the cottage gardens so there is excellent walking from your door or in any land direction from the cottages. The historic village of Abbotsbury is a village to explore - with its ancient church, monastery ruins, Tithe Barn and Children's Farm, 600 year old Swannery, St. Catherine's Chapel and Sub-Tropical Gardens, tea rooms, pubs, gift shops and galleries. Weymouth and Portland, site for the 2012 Olympic Sailing events, the Historic County town of Dorchester and Bridport are all within 10 miles or so. There are activities and attractions galore such as Whitewater trips along the coast, Monkey World, The Tank Museum, historic houses within easy reach and everywhere places of interest, outstanding experiences and views to be had of the Jurassic Coast, England's only natural World Heritage site. Your hosts, Cheryl and John Varley, will be only too pleased to suggest places and activities to suit your taste.
