Description of holiday cottage in Thiembronne, Nord-Pas-de-Calais

Chateau Grostison dates back to the 1730s. Once the heart of a working farm estate other buildings were added over the following centuries in a mix of styles. The former gatehouses have been renovated for use as comfortable holiday cottages, but still retain all the charm of their original features.

Cottage 3 (a wing of the chateau) is the largest of our cottages, having 4 bedrooms, lounge, dining room / kitchen & 2 bathrooms.

Massive beams, an inglenook fireplace and the original bread oven are just some of the original features. Two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms provide sleeping for 8. Cots are provided on request. Larger groups (up to 17) can be accommodated by booking the Gatehouses also.

The cottages have UK satellite TV, DVD player, CD player and radio.

The units look onto the Chateau's gravel courtyard which provides a sheltered spot to sit in the sun. In one corner of the courtyard is a large BBQ. The extensive gardens are divided into different areas, including a large lawn and a play area ideal for children. Do not be surprised if you see deer grazing on the lawn early in the morning, or if a group of pheasant stroll by. The chateau's grounds are a safe haven for wildlife.

A short downhill stroll into the village, 2 cafés and a fascinating church. The nearest town is a 6 minute drive, Fauquembergues, for supermarkets, other shops, weekly open market , two good restaurants and several cafés.

The Aa valley area has remained unspoilt by tourism. Life is still lived in the slow lane. This is reflected in the prices charged in the restaurants and the tourist facilities, considerably lower than in the popular resorts.

Location description

The region is the Aa valley, the nearest major town is St Omer. This is a peaceful rural part of France yet close to the beaches Berck, Le Touquet, Hardelot, Wimereux. Golfers paradise. 12 minutes to the championship standard St Omer golf course, barely half an hour to the coastal courses Le Touquet, Hardelot, Wimereux, Fort Mahon.
