Description of holiday cottage in St Juire Champgillon, Pays de la Loire

La Vieille Maison is a traditional stone built cottage set on the edge of the unspoilt village of St Juire Champgillon in the Vendée region of France. It has recently been completely renovated and now offers high quality and spacious accommodation. The adjoining land has already been transformed into an extensive 2 acre, well-kept garden and includes a heated pool and children’s play area.

The house accommodates up to 4 people (plus 1 baby). It boasts many original features, including exposed stone walls and large exposed beams in each of the en suite double / twin bedrooms.

The fitted kitchen includes a range cooker with two ovens, a dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. There is also a kitchan table and chairs seating up to six guests. The washing machine is to be found in the separate utility area.

The living room is equipped with UK satellite TV with all your favourite free view channels and there is also a DVD player. A computer with free internet and e-mail is available in the utility area. Various board games, toys, puzzles and books are also available. There is also a WC situated on the ground floor.

The 2 bedrooms are located on the first floor and each has an en suite shower room with WC. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and the second bedroom has 2 twin beds. A cot is also available for yournger children.

The extensive gardens contain a secure 8.5m x 4.6m shared heated swimming pool with a picnic / BBQ area close by, under the welcome shade of three large, mature walnut trees. A children’s play area with swings and a slide is also provided and ball games and badminton can be enjoyed on the extensive lawns. A large vegetable and fruit garden is on hand for anyone who gets their relaxation from digging! (Or maybe just a little gentle watering).

A small courtyard garden is attached to the house and is perfect for daytime relaxation, BBQs or evening drinks once the kids are in bed.

The house is fully insulated, centrally heated throughout, and has a wood-burning stove in the living room, so is perfect for out of season holidays and would be ideal for Christmas / New Year celebrations. Shorter lets can be arranged out of season (i.e. long weekends / midweek breaks), along with flexible changeover days. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

La Vieille Maison has shared access to the coutyard with our other holiday home - La Maison en Pierre - and both can be rented individually or together for large family gatherings.

Deposit/Booking Notes: Prices are per week and include all linens and towels, except pool towels.

In order to secure your booking we ask that you firstly check for availability, then complete the online Booking Form on our website & finally send a 30% non-refundable deposit for the total cost of the holiday. A £100 Security deposit is required & this should be sent along with the final payment 8 weeks prior to the start of your holiday.

Cancellation prior to final payment will only incur the loss of deposit; cancellation with less than 8 weeks to go will incur full loss of payment if we are unable to rent out to gite to other people.

Payment can be made in Sterling or Euros either by cheque or direct bank transfer.

Location description

La Vieille Maison is a 2 minute walk from the picturesque village of St Juire where you will find a bar/cafe, a small shop and an excellent restaurant, as well as a hairdresser and the Mairie where postcards & stamps can be purchased. Fresh bread is delivered to the village 3 times a day, so a local baguette is always available.

The village hosts a small, yet popular local produce market on the 1st Sunday morning of the month and every Sunday morning in July & August. St Juire is known for its free art exhibitions hosted during the summer months. It is surrounded by deserted farm tracks that are perfect for easy and safe cycling and walking.

A well stocked supermarket is within a 5 minute drive at Sainte Hermine, where bars, tabacs, chemists and boulangeries & patisseries can also be found. For those seeking a little nightlife, there is also popular night-club.

In the unspoilt village of Bazoges you will find a magnificent medieval donjon (keep) along with its beautifully laid out garden and a very popular restaurant. For those who fancy a stroll, there is a large picturesque lake at St Martin Lars or a lovely walk along the river banks, behind the chateau at Sainte Hermine.

Luçon, with its 16th century cathedral and hidden Jardin Dumaine, is within a 20 minutes easy drive.

The renaissance town of Fontenay-Le-Comte offers guided tours around the Chateau de Terre Neuve and a lot more besides.

For a spot of wine-tasting, head of to the nearby town of Mareuil-sur-Lay, where local wines can be sampled.

Fishing is a popular sport in the Vendée and there are many lakes and rivers to choose from. If golf is your preferred sport, there a 5 golf courses in the region.

The famous sandy Vendéen beaches are approximately a 45 minute drive away, where a host of water sports are available.

There is a local produce market in the village on Sunday mornings in Summer, and the famous 'Hog Roast' takes place in August.
