Description of holiday cottage in St Austell, South West

‘The Bothy’ has been restored from a ruin set in the gardens of our home, ‘Poldurn’. The Bothy’ is now a high quality, comfortable cottage that still retains many of its original features, e.g. The exposed beams, the stone fire place and low doorway. The cottage is personally supervised by the owners and caters for six. It has three bedrooms, one with its own en-suite shower room. The other two rooms, a twin room and a bunk room, share another shower room. The twin room has its own private patio and garden. The double room, with its ensuite, the kitchen, dining area and sitting area are all on the same level. The Kitchen has a dishwasher, cooker, microwave and fridge. Large dining table and comfortable sitting area.

The garden is yours to explore, please feel free to do so.
There is a gas Bar-be-cue beside the wooden picnic table.
There are various tables, seats and parasols around the garden for your use.

Feel free to explore up the ramp to ‘The Thicket’. The Summer House can be used if you wish. Take care to keep to the footpaths tho’, as there are many bulbs and other plants set under the trees and shrubs that can easily be trampled unnoticed. The path is quite stony so good walking shoes are recommended. The path continues, beyond our boundary, to a wooded area on an adjoining property, the owners of which may allow you to continue your walk and take in the view across to the Tors of Bodmin Moor; but please ask first. Maybe they’ll invite you to have a ride on the ‘train’ or a swing. If you wish, arrangements can be made to unlock the green gate and you can wander on up to the top of Carloggas Downs and take in the 360° panorama. Or you can circumnavigate the hill. Take care to close any gates you open as there are sheep and cattle around.
This viewpoint can also be reached by car for the less intrepid but the track is very uneven and can still be a bit of an adventure.

Directions

Proceed south via the M5 to Exeter (junction 31) and follow the A30 west (signposted Okehampton) for about 55 miles.

Take the exit signposted A391 St Austell. Follow the A391 Through Bugle up to Stenalees and turn left at the roundabout. After ˝ mile turn left into Penhale Road. After 20yds turn into the Gate on the left.
