Location description

Mithian is surrounded by delightful countryside with numerous lovely walks. The nearest cove at Trevellas is a 35 minute walk alongside the stream through peaceful wooded Jericho Valley; from the cove you can clamber over the rocks at low tide or climb the cliff at high tide over to neighbouring Trevaunance Cove and the welcoming Driftwood Spars public house and restaurant. It is possible to walk to Perranporth via quiet country lanes in about 50 minutes with an alternative return via the spectacular coastal path with a return to the cottage up the Jericho valley or along local lanes.

St Agnes has a craft trail around the art galleries and craft workshops in the village. There are interesting sites illustrating the industrial mining history of Cornwall nearby, especially on the cliffs above Chapel Porth beach. The St Agnes Museum tells the tale of mining in the local area.

Whether you prefer to surf or stretch out on the sand with a book there are suitable beaches in the vicinity - the nearest are Chapel Porth, Trevaunance Cove and Perranporth. Surfing tuition and full watersports facilities are available at many beaches on the North Cornish coast. There are riding stables in the vicinity and the golf course on the cliffs at Perranporth is only 5 miles distant. Cyclists can enjoy the quiet lanes or use the Portreath to Devoran cycleway along the old mineral tramroad for a longer day out. Cycles can be hired at Bissoe.

At Callestick Farm, a couple of miles from the cottage, you can watch delicious flavoured ice cream being made and then indulge in sampling it in the cafe or to take away!

There are a wide range of amenities in the village of St Agnes including a bakery, butchers, chemist, fish shop, bank, library, post office, convenience stores, newsagents and a fish and chip shop. In addition there is a variety of places to eat and drink with 6 pubs/bars and a couple of cafes.

These are some of our favourite places within about 45 mins drive of the cottage:
(1). The Pandora Inn at Restronguet Passage
(2). A boat trip along the River Fal from Truro to Falmouth and train back to Truro
(3). Walk from Flushing round to Mylor
(4). Trelissick and Gendurgan NT Gardens
(5). Minack Theatre at Porthcurno and Porthcurno Telegraph Museum
(6). Lewinnick Lodge on Pentire Headland for an evening drink and the views hopefully with sunset!
(7). Walk from St Ives to Lelant and get the train back or vice versa
(8). St Michaels's Mount when the tide is right
