Description of holiday cottage near Rothbury, Northumberland/North East

Cherry Tree Cottage is a delightfully renovated Grade II listed 19th Century stone built converted farm steading in the pretty hamlet of East Hepple, on the banks of the River Coquet, one of the best salmon and trout rivers in England. Located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and four star graded by Visit Britain in 2007, the cottage was converted in 2001 to an exceptional standard to become a luxurious and welcoming holiday home sleeping 6 people in three bedrooms.

With use of natural materials throughout, it is a charming cottage and offers stunning views from the garden and entrance down the Coquet Valley. The cottage comes into it’s own during the summer, with patio dining and easy al fresco lunches in the garden, but the cosy stone inglenook and characterful features offer a warm and inviting stay in the cooler months.

Whether a family holiday or romantic break, come and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a beautiful Northumbrian Village - and use this great central location to discover the whole of Northumberland, - both coast and country.

The Cottage features on the Ground Floor:
An Entrance hallway with cloaks/boots cupboard and WC, a stylish open plan Dining Lounge, Breakfast Kitchen, Utility and rear lobby, all beautifully decorated with a comfortable interior. There is a multi-fuel stove and stone inglenook fireplace (fuel provided) and Cottage style solid pine baton doors with latches and timber double glazed windows.

The stunning Kitchen has granite work surfaces and slate flooring, solid oak kitchen cabinets, a dishwasher, double oven and grill, 5 ring gas hob with wok burner, stainless steel extractor hood, fridge, freezer and a gas fired central heating with combination boiler for instant hot water. It comes fully equipped with coordinating kitchenware, cafetiere, juicer and a small utility area just off the kitchen with washer/dryer.

On the first floor there are two Double Bedrooms (one with en suite) a Twin Bedroom and a Family Bathroom. All bedrooms are furnished with coordinated bed linen and Egyptian cotton towels (all beds will be fully made up on arrival) and non-allergenic duvets are available. Marble and slate flooring is used throughout the beautifully appointed bathrooms and a mix of waxed timber floors and stone flagged floors in the other rooms.

Cherry Tree Cottage offers wonderful views down the Coquet Valley with an enclosed safe garden for children, garden furniture and BBQ. The main garden itself faces East which is ideal for breakfast and lunch on the patio in the warmer months and the West facing rear garden ideal for catching late afternoon sun (especially after a good walk!). There is also safe, off-street parking for up to 3 cars and the Garage is especially useful for storage of fishing/walking gear or bikes etc. Everything you could possibly need for a perfect family holiday.

Location description

East Hepple and the Coquet Valley
The tiny hamlet of East Hepple is an ideal getaway on the edge of the stunning Northumberland National Park. The River Coquet runs through the area and offers some of the best trout fishing in the country. Like many other areas in Northumberland, Hepple suffered during the border wars with Scotland in the 13th and 14th centuries and some people built defensive homes called tower houses, such as Hepple Tower. The turmoil of the medieval period was echoed in the post-medieval period with fierce feuds between border families called reivers. Those who could afford it built defended farmhouses called bastles and many of these survive across western and central Northumberland. East Hepple is now a beautiful spot in the Coquet Valley to enjoy a family holiday and offers plenty of things to do to suit everyone.
