Brittany Cottage Les Blancs is a large character holiday home, or gite for families, that combines traditional charm with the conveniences of modern living, and provides all you need for a comfortable, stress free family holiday in the Morbihan region of Southern Brittany, France. This spacious longere or farmhouse holiday cottage has a tasteful mix of comfortable, modern soft furnishings and lovely, traditional Breton style furniture. The Breton buffet in the lounge contains a small library for holiday reading. WIFI internet connection is available at the family holiday cottage. There is also a children's indoor multi games table.

The holiday cottage or gite part of the farmhouse was once a stable with a large hayloft above. During the renovations many of the character features were retained and restored, such as the impressive oak ceiling beams, exposed stone and granite walls, and the massive fireplaces. The holiday home has been furnished with families in mind.

The ground floor of the holiday cottage accommodation is very spacious, and has ceramic tiles throughout. The large lounge retains its impressive oak beams. The exposed stone wall houses a large Breton fireplace with wood burner. There is a CD, DVD and TV for either French or English reception. A small variety of DVDs for family viewing are available.
There is also a small sitting room off the lounge for use as a peaceful retreat, or reading room. It has a sofa bed and can be used as an extra bedroom by special request

The spacious family sized kitchen/dining area of the holiday cottage or gite retains the original oak beams. The country pine kitchen is well equipped for a large family, with a five burner range style gas cooker, double bowl sink unit, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge freezer. The typically Breton style dining table can comfortably seat a large family of ten. A high chair is available free of charge.
The downstairs cloakroom of the farmhouse holiday cottage or gite has a toilet, washbasin and washing machine.

The first floor accommodation of the holiday home is approached by a substantial oak staircase.  A safety stairgate is available if needed.
The fully tiled bathroom has a toilet, large washbasin and a bath, an essential if you have young children with you. 
Four bedrooms in the family holiday accommodation all have fitted wardrobes, mirrored vanity units with washbasins, and enclosed showers. The two double bedrooms have lovely, traditional beds. There is room for a cot in one and a child's folding bed in the other. The two children's rooms both have twin single beds.
Duvets, French style square pillows and bedlinen are provided. Extra bedlinen is available by request. Large towels are available for hire, see terms & conditions
A travel cot is available free of charge. Please bring your own cot bedding.

Location description

Holiday Gite Les Blancs is a perfect place to relax after a day out exploring Brittany, with its chateaux, medieval and Napoleonic towns (Locmine 10mins, or Pontivy 25mins), museums, canals, lakes, rivers, woods and fields as far as the eye can see, and of course the seaside, with miles of glorious sandy beaches, is never far away.

In about an hour you could be relaxing with the family on Carnac Plage, or visiting the amazing "standing stones" of Carnac, enjoying a meal in one of the lovely harbour side cafes at Lorient or Auray (45 mins), or taking a cliff top walk along the Quiberon peninsula.

In Breton the name Morbihan means "little sea" which aptly describes the Golfe du Morbihan. This is a must for anyone visiting the southern part of Brittany, with historic Vannes (only 30 mins away) at its head. Little motor boats called "vedettes" will take you on a magical tour around the islands of the gulf.
If you prefer a shorter drive then try the Lac au Duc at Ploermel (25 mins), where there is a sandy beach (with plenty of shady spots), and water sports such as windsurfing or boating.

The Lorient Festival is one of the highlights of the summer season and is highly recommended if you are on holiday during the early part of August. For several days and nights the streets of Lorient are filled with hundreds of people. There is live folk music, dancing and colourful stalls selling all kinds of craftwork and local Breton produce. The bars and restaurants are constantly busy serving a variety of delicious meals, such as moules or galettes(savoury pancakes).

Not to be forgotten are the colourful markets which are so much a part of Breton culture. On your arrival at Les Blancs you will be given a list of all the market days, so no excuses for missing them!

Local events

There is plenty to do at Reguiny, which is only 5 minutes down the road. You can take a leisurely stroll with the family around the beautiful lake, visit the first world war museum (where you will get your own friendly guide to show you around), swim in the 25 metre open air pool, or play tennis on the well kept tennis courts.

If you want to eat out, try the restaurant in Le Bretagne Hotel which is open every day. If the family enjoys takeaway pizzas, La Campanella can be recommended. It also has a very comprehensive menu for eating in.
Radenac (5mins) has a very popular creperie with a bouncy castle to keep the children happy. Once you have tasted the crepes at Chez Bido you may be compelled to return!

At Radenac there are tennis courts (free of charge) which are within a large sports area. This is also the venue for "jeux sans frontieres", the annual inter village competition.

Shopping is easy when you are staying at Les Blancs. As well as the local bakeries, where you can buy your daily baguettes, Reguiny has a large supermarket with everything you should need, but if you feel like a change you can go to Josselin (15 mins) where there are two very large supermarkets.

At medieval Josselin you will find a magnificent chateau towering above the lovely Nantes Brest Canal. Further into the "Petite Cite De Charactere" are lots of attractive shops and restaurants which are very popular with locals and tourists alike.
