Casa Kismet is our lovely Portuguese home on the edge of Miranda do Corvo, near to Coimbra, Central Portugal.
It is the last house before the forest and is very peaceful on a back lane that has little traffic, but within distance of the village and the town.
It is perfect for a quiet, secluded getaway or as it's near the N17, fantastic for touring central Portugal and the Beira region.
We have totally reformed a separate building into our spacious self catering unit, Casinha Nova (new house as our builders called it). It is separate from the main house across the sunny courtyard, so very private.

We have reformed some out buildings into a light and airy, spacious self catering, 1 bedroomed unit which sleeps 2 (3 with put up bed).

open plan living room, with comfy corner suite, satellite TV, with Portuguese and some English channels, a DVD player with a selection of films, a music system, as well as heating appliances for the cool winter evenings.

fully equipped kitchen/diner with cooker, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, also a pine table and 4 chairs. The large kitchen window looks out over the long gravel garden and beyond into the forest of Eucalyptus and Pine.
double bedroom and en-suite bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower. Hairdryer provided.

the floors are all tiled which are lovely and cool in summer
wi-fi internet access available 24/7
a selection of hundreds of films and documentaries can be downloaded and viewed from the satellite system (small charge applies).

Location description

Quiet and peaceful, last house on a lane into the forest, on the edge of a village and town. But close to main route into Coimbra.
Railway station in town links to Coimbra and onwards to Porto and Lisboa.
Beautiful sandy beaches only 1 hours drive away. The mountains are about 2 hours drive. Beautiful forested hills, big rivers, river beaches, and a Roman ruin and castles...all nearby.

Directions

From either Porto or Lisboa, take the A1 motorway to Condeixa.
Exit at junction 11, signposted Condeixa and Lousa, pay at portagem, then take first right to Condeixa,Lousa and Soure. You pass a Repsol garage and come to a roundabout, at the roundabout go straight across towards Lisboa, along road with Total/Cepsa garages on both sides, take the right turn IC3 towards Tomar and Mda Corvo road, left at next roundabout towards IC3 Tomar, stay on this road (only a couple of km) until you see the left turn to Miranda do Corvo on the N342 (Lousa and Mda Corvo). Take this left, it takes about 20mins from here.
Follow road through a few villages, Casal Novo, Bruscos, Lamas; watch out for the 'veloci-raptors', speed traffic lights, which will turn red if you go over 50kph.
Just after Lamas you go over the brow of a hill and start down towards Miranda, down a twisty road that follows the river valley.
When you see the Miranda do Corvo (and Montoiro) exit on the right, take it, which will bring you to a roundabout. Go left, then right at next roundabout, straight on into the town.
You come to a roundabout with a fountain in the middle, turn left here (Centro), over the railway line, follow road through town, until you get to a T junction. Turn right here, up to the Repsol garage and traffic lights, stay in left lane, take left road up the hill towards Semide, Segade and Coimbra. Nearly there! Up the hill, a few bends and a veloci-raptor you will see a restaurant (yellow) on the right; Rufinos dos Leitoes, and a little bar, next right is a lane signed 'Vidual', this is our lane, we're the last house on the left, about 200m. Drive passed the house to gravel drive and pull in
