    Location description

    BEACHES

    Porto Palo
    Ancient fishing village is today the most important seaside resort in the area. The village consists of a group of houses and settlements spread out over a rocky outcrop topped with a characteristic tower built in 1583 Coast Guard to defend the city from pirate attacks. Porto Palo has a port is used by pleasure yachts than fishing vessels. The sandy beach stretches along the length of the bay in a relaxed environment characterized by poor housing estates.

    Solette
    Coastal area of 25 hectares of natural interest, between Porto Palo and the Belize River, on the border with Belize River Mouth Nature Reserve. Gurra along the valley of the sea are different plant species: the tamarisk, reeds pungent, horned poppy. On the rocky coast found the sea fennel, the Stratico common dwarf palms, the germander female, the narcissus autumn and different kinds of capers. The valley is populated by hares, weasels, hedgehogs and foxes, while the ridge many species of migratory birds nest.

    Lido Fiori
    Stretch of coast characterized by sand dunes and reeds that form a landscape and high ecological value. The dunes have a morphology which depends on the changing conditions of sandy coastline. Their construction depends essentially on the natural direction of the winds that carry and deposit sand and special plants (Psamofite). The dunes protect inland from salt and wind loads and emulsions are an effective protective barrier for the rooms behind and are a typical environment of the pristine shores of the Mediterranean.

    Capparrina
    It 'an area of great naturalistic value. It is bordered by vineyards and the river Female dead. There is a luxuriant vegetation of dwarf palms and dwarf iris. In other plant species are the daffodil, the Trojans, the asphodel, corolina the child, the splint reduced the Illyrian varianella and gladiolus. Grow on the dunes of the beach and the sea lily sea ering. The secluded beach is also home to many animal species such as sea turtles and the turtle swamp.     Giache bianche
    Beach located between the hill "Capparini" and the mouth of "river Carboj" characterized by the presence of small white pebbles on the beach holding up the shore. The sand dunes, the giache white, Mediterranean vegetation and the neighboring grove of acacia trees paint a landscape of exceptional natural and scenic.

    MONUMENTS

    Castle Burgiomilluso
    The castle tower of Burgiomilluso, now reduced to a fragment due to the earthquake of 1968, is the last surviving remnant of the historic building. And 'historiographical tradition to trace the foundation of the manor to 1239, when Frederick II Hohenstaufen from Lodi with a letter ordering the construction of a state-owned land in habitationes of Burgiomilluso to repopulate the territory previously inhabited by Muslims. The tower consisted of two rectangular bodies huddled with the shape of a irregular octagon, and four floors connected by a spiral staircase. Interesting times we had the rib of the two environments foreground: the first with trapezoidal ribs, the second umbrella is divided into eight veils sharp edges and as many ribs which radiate symmetrically from the central key. Today the rebuilt tower designed by Vittorio Gregotti, enforced in 1987, follows the old volumes of the original building new walls and leaves in a tube that contains the remains of the base of the ancient tower of the castle Burgiomilluso.

    Pignatelli Palace
    On the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, the main square of Memphis, one of the most beautiful in Sicily, stands majestically Pignatelli Palace, built in 1638 at the behest of Tagliavia Diego Aragona Pignatelli, Prince of Castelvetrano and founder of Memphis. The palace, home of the feudal lords of "land" of Memphis, alongside the castle tower of Burgiomilluso, occupying the area of the old medieval castle itself was built on the ruins of an older building complex owned by the installation of Islamic Burgiomilluso. Have recently been found, just beneath the floor of the building, a series of tombs related to a necropolis dating from the fifth and sixth century AD, intersected by a stump of wall stones, roughly squared, with probability belonged to the strong Muslim. The interesting burials found remains from each kit, are so far the only evidence of the earliest human presence in downtown Memphis. Part of the building three stores formerly called "arcs", "wine" and a final "Cuba", the Arabic name which still reveals the ancient origin of the site.

    Palace Ravid
    Ravid The palace is considered among the most imposing neoclassical buildings of the province of Agrigento. The elegant building, overlooking a courtyard of the historic center of Memphis, which is the backdrop to Imbornone street, was built around the last quarter of the eighteenth century by the family Ravid Ferrantelli as a summer residence. The facade, enclosed in a courtyard mosaic floor from a river cobbles, focuses on a porch formed by four Doric columns surmounted by capitals, placed on a large flight of steps that support an elegant entablature with alternating triglyphs and metopes. Entablature above the turret, with three arches on each side interposed by pilasters and covered with a terrace surrounded by a balcony punctuated by pillars. The interior of the building is a series of splendid rooms, originally paved with precious tiles from Santo Stefano di Camastra, some of them you can still admire the original paintings of the time, typically neoclassical consists of floral and animal motifs.

    MUSEUMS

    Museum of shells
    At the headquarters of the Institution cultural Frederick II of Memphis is on permanent display an important collection Malacology. This is a collection that contains almost 5,000 copies and unique in southern Italy: 1,700 seashells from around the world and choices between the most representative is on display in three rooms dedicated to many great Malacology worldwide fame.

    CHURCHES

    Cathedral
    Built around 1650 with three naves, partially destroyed by the earthquake of 1968 is now rebuilt by architect Vittorio Gregotti. Inside are preserved the ruins of the ancient church and some fine works of art such as the wooden statue of St. Anthony of Padua by the seventeenth century in which the church and dedicated group of sculptures of the Virgin of the Rosary with Saints Catherine and Dominic century. Seventeenth, eighteenth-century paintings of Fra Felice da Sambuca, wooden sculptures of Bagnasco and a fine wooden crucifix cross covered with silver leaf, a valuable work of the century. XVII

    Church of St. Joseph
    Built in 1715, has a facade decorated with inlays and pilasters, and a unique rectangular belfry. The single nave interior preserves important works of art including the polychrome wooden statue of St Joseph by the seventeenth century, the wooden statue of "Saint Lucia" probably by the workshop of Filippo Quattrocchi and a "Holy Family "work of nineteenth-century painter Marco Caricchia.

    Church of Purgatory
    Already dedicated to St. Anthony is now dedicated to Our Lady of Consolation, whose nineteenth-century wooden statue is kept on the altar instead of a more ancient painting of the souls in purgatory now lost. Of great artistic importance are a series of paintings by contemporary master Gianbecchina.

    Church of the Addolorata
    Rebuilt on an older church around 1813, it houses a beautiful altarpiece of "The Lamentation over the Dead Christ" painted by Mariano Rossi in the eighteenth century and a wooden statue of the Virgin of Sorrows, "by nineteenth-century sculptor Agrigento Calogero Cardella.

    Church of the Collegio di Maria SS Annunziata
    Topped by a clock tower house is now back to its former splendor thanks to a recent restoration. Inside it preserves part of a nineteenth-century canvas painted by Joseph Sabella saccense modeled after a painting by the famous master Mariano Rossi.

    WINERIES

    Cantina Settesoli
    To understand a wine must be from the vineyards. Nature in Memphis, including the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento and Selinunte temples, is extraordinary. The climate is mild and the land, gentle slopes of hills sloping down to the sea, is always suited to growing grapes. For soil quality and exposure these sites express the true essence of the south, fertile and rich. The extension of cultivated land stretches over an area of 6,500 hectares that are cultivated grape varieties - a Nero d'Avola original and full of personality and Grecanico extreme flexibility - and grape varieties, Chardonnay, Viognier, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Fiano to name a few. The grapes ripened by a climate that allows proper development and under the watchful eye and alert farmers of agronomists are able to return sincere sense of territory they are born, all its characteristics and peculiarities of wine Mediterranean: intense and delicate, fresh and harmonious taste. The experts Masters winemakers, cellar does the rest: the transformation process is an ancient rite in which the methods are constantly updated but the love and dedication are the usual ones.

    Cantine Dispensa Planeta
    The "Waiver" is the core business, the heart of technology, production, administrative, historical and family Planeta. Located in the homonymous in the city of Menfi, there are two of the five cellars, a themed library, administration, and a rural farm with family housing. The small winery came into production in 2001, and is dedicated to the production of cru red wines, Merlot, Syrah and Petrini. The winery has a total capacity of 4000 hl, and a separate bottling line. On the floor below has been made of the premises for storing wine in wood, the total capacity of 1500 barrels. The large basement has been completed for the 2005 harvest and is dedicated to the production of two wines The Secret The Secret Red White and second refined and modern technologies. After reservation you can make a guided tour of the cellars of the pantry, with wine tasting room/library.

    Cantina Ulmo Planeta
    Founded in 1995, is the first winery Planeta family. Located on the banks of lago Arancio, near the town of Sambuca di Sicilia, surrounded by vineyards and an olive grove. The architectural style is respectful of the land and traditions. Inside at ground level, are the fermentation tanks, while the underlying barrel aging takes place the best selection of Chardonnay and Fiano. The total capacity is about 1200 barrels. The cellar is entirely specialized in the production and refinement of white wines, Alastro, Comet and Chardonnay. For the harmonious placement particularly happy, and for the beam near the 500, the winery is dell'Ulmo, the five cellars of Planeta, one more visit.
