Alida Cottage
The lounge - situated on the first floor and accessed via internal open staircase, has been tastefully furnished with leather sofa , TV with English freeview channels, dvd, video and playstation.

The bedroom - on the ground floor has some original features such as beams and rustic stone sink with Double bed and bedroom furniture.

The shower room - shower with massage jets, vanity unit & wc

Bed linen and bathroom towels are supplied. Pool towels are supplied

The kitchen/diner - fully fitted kitchen includes washing machine fridge frezeer, cooker/oven coffee machine, toaster, kettle, sandwich maker, etc. Ironing board, iron and hairdryer are also supplied. The diner has dining table and chairs and comfortable chairs to to relax whilst enjoying an aperitif before dinner.

Broadband wi-fi access available on request

The garden - has the sun from mid morning until dusk and is entered via french doors onto a patio area and there is garden furniture and BBQ for alfresco dining.

The pool - an octagonal above ground pool - lovely to come back to after a day out in the sunshine and to relax by with a glass of something sparking. The pool is shared with the owners and is available May-Sept only.

This is a non smoking property. We do not accept pets. Maximum occupancy is 2. Access to the lounge is by an open staircase making it unsuitable for use by young children or the infirm. Ideally, the cottage layout suits adult couples. A car is essential. Linen and towels are provided. A warm welcome pack of local produce is supplied on arrival.

Location description

Pretty Alida cottage is situated in the picturesque village of Juille in the Charente region of Southwest France, surrounded by rolling Charentaise countryside and farmland. (For location map use Google map search ' Juille 16230').

Our property is set amongst working farms and was once used as the village Blacksmiths and an artists workshop and gallery. The cottage and main house are over 200yrs old and have a wealth of stonework and beams.

The village is very pretty with church and stream running through - boule pitch and lavoir where one of the oldest villagers still does some of her washing ..

We are served daily by a mobile bakers van for bread and cakes, and twice weekly by a mobile general store from the local co-operative. The market town of Mansle with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes is 10 minutes drive away. The main towns of Ruffec and Angouleme are about 20 minutes by car.

The district is largely agricultural in make up, with local products being sold direct to the public. The area is renowned for products such as Cognac, Pineau (fortified wine), goats cheese, melons and foie gras.

Directions

Boulogne/Calais - About 8 hrs
Head for Paris and take the A10 towards Bordeaux. Branch off towards Poitiers. At Poitiers take the RN10 south towards Angouleme. Turn off at Mansle (before Angouleme) and then follow local directions to Juille.(LD ferries Portsmouth to Le Havre are by far the cheapest of the longer sea routes, but have limited sailings)

Portsmouth/Caen/Le Havre - About 4 ½ hours
Head South towards Tours in the Loire valley then join the A10/N10 towards Poitiers. Then as above.
