Description of holiday cottage in Karystos, Evia / Euboea

When Rena Hatzigeorgiou takes time off from her busy schedule in Athens, she escapes to her country house in Karistos, a small town on the southern part of Evia Island at the foot of the picturesque mount Ohi.

The house is perched on the mountainside, 4-5 km from the town, with a breathtaking view of the Sea, Castle and town. Rena decorated the home in the English Country Cottage style, with great attention to detail. Weather one is enjoying a glass of wine on the large veranda, watching the castle turn red at sunset, or taking a stroll up the hill for a drink of spring water, one is surrounded by the tranquility of nature. With nothing but the sound of sheep's bells, it is hard to imagine that Athens is only an one hour boat ride away!

The home's interior is so pleasant, comfortable, soothing and relaxing that it is not only a lovely summer home, but also a cozy winter hide away with nights around the fire place, walks in the country and romantic evenings indoors.

The house is only a 15 min drive from Karistos town, with the feel of a typical Greek village. Plenty of charming little taverns line the beachfront and one can enjoy a drink at several cafes and bars while listening to music. Karistos is known for its beautiful beaches. There are organized beaches for those who prefer comfort, but also several deserted beaches and coves to explore. The Dimosari gorge is a great attraction for nature lovers and promise to be a breathtaking hike, with small waterfalls and amazing wild flowers during the spring.

What makes the house so special, is that it is not situated in a busy commercial tourist area. Tourism is moderate, people are kind, prices are reasonable and nature is unspoiled!

Location description

Plenty of secluded beaches with crystal clear water. Breath Taking view from the house of the Medieval Castle and the gulf of Karistos, Famous Dimosaris Gorge reach in plant and animal life amazing for trekking. Charming traditional taverns.

Directions

When you land at Athens international (Eleftherios Venizelos), it will take you 30 mins to get at Rafina Port (it is preffered to rent a car from the airport).
The ferry boat will get you to Marmari port in an hour.Tickets are available at agencies at each port. It is approximately 20 euros per car and 10 euros per person for the ferry - same for return (you cannot have return tickets.
From Marmari port the house is 20 mins away.
