Description of holiday cottage in Huddersfield, Yorkshire / Humber
Tyas cottage is definitely NOT 'twee or kitsch'. White painted (apart from the kitchen) this combined barn and cottage conversion is light, airy and spacious. Furnished mainly with antiques and original oil paintings, it is not only stylish, but has Yorkshire character.
The kitchen, with its large round antique mulberry wood table is often used a second living room. Also on the ground floor are a twin bedroom, bathroom and a hall, with its large oak refectory table.
A spiral staircase from the hall brings you into the elegant drawing room (that is open to the rafters).
The master bedroom boasts a magnificent carved mahogony 18th century 4 poster bed. In addition there is a twin bedroom on the first floor with its own bathroom. The first floor drawing room celebrates an enormous 'Queen' roof truss. Another feature of this room is the massive 2m x 1.2m yorkshire flag on which a wood burning stove has been placed.

Location description
Tyas Cottage is within easy reach of a wide range of attractions yet very secluded (at the end of a cul-de-sac). It is part of a small, ancient hamlet in Merrydale valley (designated as a Site of Scientific Interest) and the site of the first Colne Valley water-powered mill (17th C). It has a private terrace plus access to large shared garden, river, mill-pond, waterfall, woodland and nearby moors (and the Pennine Way). There are 11 golf courses within 5 miles. Good overnight ferry trip from Rotterdam to Hull, otherwise loads of cheap flights to all 3 nearby airports. Although a 'taxibus' will collect from the top of our hill - really advisable to bring a car. Full details sent on booking.
