Description of holiday cottage in Grange-over-Sands, Lake District / North West

Converted from a brewery, we have refurbished Summer Cottage to an impressive standard.

The spacious and beautifully appointed sitting room has a cosy log fire, and opens onto a massive balcony with table and chairs where we enjoy beautiful views, and where we often have morning coffee and even a meal at the end of the day!

There’s plenty of room for our rustic dining table which comfortably seats eight next to our gorgeous Welsh dresser.

In the private garden we have all of the garden furniture you need for entertaining, including a BBQ, and there is ample covered space for your bikes, boots and wet clothes to drip.

There is also a TV and DVD with many films, and free Wi-Fi connection and we have provided many board games and enough packs of cards for Racing Demon if the weather is too bad to go out.

Our delightful cottage kitchen has: dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge, ceramic hob & oven, toaster, ironing board & iron.

We have three charming and comfortable bedrooms: one double, one twin and one with bunk beds; and for those extra guests we also have a really comfy double sofa-bed in the sitting room, and we can also accommodate little ones with cots.

Our brand new bathroom now includes a luxurious spa bath with shower, and we have added a beautiful shower room downstairs too.

There is a small shallow stream running along the end which our children love paddling in. If you look carefully, you can sometimes see the brown trout! Summer Cottage is set in secluded private grounds far from traffic, which makes it very safe for children.

Location description

We are in a fantastic location for walking, climbing and cycling: there’s the whole of the Lake District on your doorstep!

About a mile away are the Cumbrian Coastal Path, the Cistercian Way (Both superb walking paths), and the Cumbrian Cycle route. Grizedale Forest which has superb way marked mountain bike trails and walking trails is just a few miles north.

Summer Cottage is situated in the charming village of Allithwaite. There is a Post Office and general store, children's playground, tennis court, bowling green and football pitch and also two excellent pub/restaurants only 200 yards way.

Only 5 minutes away is Cartmel village, Home of the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding, with its impressive ancient Priory, picturesque town square and race course. It has many charming pubs, shops and restaurants including L’enclume and Rogan’s Bar.

Grange over Sands is also only 5 minutes away, with its beautiful promenade, ornamental water gardens and shops. These include the award winning Higginson’s butchers and the Hazlemere cafe (which makes vanilla slices to die for).

Just outside Grange is the Ice Cream Farm, with calves, piglets, chicks and lambs to pet, a cafe with delicious home made ice cream, and a wonderful children's play area.

There are several golf courses nearby, two in Grange over Sands.
Many major Cumbrian visitor attractions are only a 10 minutes away:The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway takes you to the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruise Ships, which travel the full 12 miles of the lake. Also 10 minutes away are Levens Hall's world famous topiary garden, the largest in the world!

Sizergh Castle's impressive gardens, and low Sizergh barn farm shop, where you can watch the cows being milked from the cafe.

Holker Hall, with its majestic gardens; home to summer concerts, excellent restaurant and food hall.

30 Minutes away is the famous South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top home, Coniston village.

The local fishing is excellent, with coarse, game and sea angling catered for, and we have two tickets for WADAA waters. The Tackle shop in nearby Grange-over-Sands is well stocked and very helpful.

Directions

From the M6:

Exit 36: A591 towards Kendal
A590 towards Ullverston
B5277 through Lindale and into Grange over Sands.
Follow signs to Flookburgh (Still B5277) through Allithwaite.

You will go through a narrow part of the road and immediately you will see on the left a sign to Humphrey Head. About 100 yards down this lane turn left over a cattle grid (where it says Private). Take the left fork at the end if this track.

Summer Cottage is on the right hand end of the barn. Insert Key in Lock.
