Mara's Cottage is renovated from buildings over 200 years old, and has all the charm and comfort you would expect whether on holiday or househunting in the region. Sleep in our ornately carved antique bed,During summer relax in the secluded pool. During winter snuggle up in front of the roaring log stove after long walks in the forest, just outside your door. Cool tiled floors and beautiful wooden beams makes Mara's Cottage a unique place to stay, the en-suite bathroom contains all the facilities you'll need for your stay. The small but well fitted out kitchenette, ensures you'll have all you need for making those romantic meals for two . All bookings of five days or more receive a free fruit platter plus abottle of local red wine. Also the cottage is supplied with free english tea, coffee (instant plus fresh ground) milk and sugar. The local Market town of Figueiro Dos Vinhos is on 4 klm away, and has all amenities including, three supermarkets, a library, an indoor pool, shops bars and cafes. The internet space is open 6 days a week from 10am -7pm and is free to use.. The local market day is Saturday, where you'll find all manner of beautiful fresh food and an abundence of local 'colour' . We are well positioned for all of Central Portugal being 2 hours from Lisbon or Oporto, 45 mins from Historic Coimbra and an hour from the Silver Coast.

The whole of Central Portugal abounds with places of interest, historic sites, like the vast Roman Ruins at Conibriga only 30 mins drive away, and wonderful castles including Penela, Pombal, and not forgetting the jewel in the crown of the Knights Templars, fantastic Tomar, The Convento Do Cristo. All less than an hours drive away.

If just relaxing and taking in the scenery is more your choice, then the crystal clear lakes and rivers of the area many with their own purpose built fluvial beach are the places for you. Here you'll find peace and tranquility, fresh air and fragrant forests, wild flowers blooming most of the year round, the unspoilt Portugal that retains its own unique atmosphere and culture, donkey carts and women carrying shopping the traditional way... on their heads...

Here you can still eat out in a local restaurant for less than 10euros per head, and that includes wine. Fresh produce is to be found in the local markets, eating outside is common, we provide a large outside cooking and eating area specificly for you to do just that. The above ground pool and pretty sundeck are private and peaceful, and receive good sun exposure from early morning to late evening. There is a cool and shady vine covered seating /eating BBQ area when you wish to cool off... perfect for those warm summer evenings with a glass or two of our local wine...

Situated on the edge of the forest, we are perfect for a casual stroll or a more planned hike, whichever takes your fancy

Location description

Central Portugal is an oasis of calm and tranquility, crystal clear lakes, mountain streams, sunshine and flowers. This is still a place where you see donkey carts and women with baskets on their heads, where a three course meal with wine and coffee can only cost you under 10 euros per person.
We are equally between Lisbon and Porto airports, a mere 2 hour drive from either city, only 40 mins from Historic Coimbra and its lovely old town and excellent shopping. One hour from the Silver Coast, 40 mins from The Fabulous Castle of the Knights Templars at Tomar... the whole area abounds with castles and historic places of interest...
