The Local Area
Wimbleball Lake is only 5 minutes walk from Woolcotts Cross. This scenic lake lies within Exmoor National Park and is surrounded by woodland and meadows. There is a variety of activities on offer at the lake including watersports, angling and walking. In addition you will find an adventure playground for children and large areas of parkland suitable for family picnics and outdoor games. For walkers, there are miles of footpaths circling the lake and a small tea-room offering a variety of refreshments.
The established Angling and Watersports Centre at Wimbleball provides facilities for tuition in sailing, windsurfing and canoeing, along with rowing boats and equipment hire. The lake boasts a first class rainbow trout fishery, for which permits for bank and boat fly-fishing can be obtained from the centre.

Location description
Woolcotts Cross Cottage, available to let all year round, is in a stunning rural location, offering unrivalled access to the beauty of Exmoor National Park and overlooks Wimbleball Lake. This attractive converted barn provides excellent, modern self-catering facilities and holiday accommodation for up to three guests, with up to two dogs welcome.
Perfect for Fly-fishing enthusiasts (day and week passes available), watersports enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists and bird watchers, it is ideally situated for exploring the grandeur of the Doone countryside.
Lovely coastal resorts, National Trust properties, golf and horse riding are all to be found nearby. The cottage is one mile from the village of Brompton Regis, where there is a good village shop and pub, with the attractive town of Dulverton nearby. The seaside town of Minehead is just 12 miles away, and the county town of Taunton approximately 20 miles.
Tourist attractions
West Somerset Railway runs between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead and is the longest privately owned steam railway in the country.

Directions
Directions to Woolcotts Cross Cottage from M5 Junction 25 (Taunton)
Leave M5 at junction 25 (Taunton)
Turn right under motorway and follow A 358 direction Minehead which takes you round the edge of Taunton.
As you leave Taunton, turn right at the roundabout by the CROSSKEYS PUB still on the A 358 and sign posted Minehead.
After approximately 3.5 miles you will pass Bishops Lydeard on your right and shortly after this (4 miles) Turn Left on to the B 3224 sign posted Wheddon Cross, Raleghs Cross and Exmoor. (The turning is opposite Cedar Falls.)
Keep on the B 3224 until you reach Raleghs Cross Inn on your left (approximately 9 miles).
Carry straight on for approx 2 miles and take the second turning on the right sign posted to Brompton Regis and Wimbleball Lake. (NB – DO NOT fork right on B3224 sp to Wheddon Cross but keep straight on to the next right turn.)
Follow this road for a further 2 miles – you will cross the bridge over the end of Wimbleball Lake and the road narrows. In 500 hundred metres at the grass triangle, turn right sign posted Blagdon, Ford and Gupworthy only.
The cottage is immediately on your right and our house Higher Woolcotts (painted pink!) is 50 metres further up the lane on the right.
