Located in the heart of Hardy’s Dorset. Doles Ash Farm Holiday Cottages offers a relaxing break surrounded by beautiful countryside and set in 12 acres of West Dorset’s Piddle Valley. This family run Dorset self-catering holiday cottage complex offers 7 comfortable cottages, all of which have been sympathetically converted from former farm buildings. Our holiday cottages are clustered around a grass courtyard, along with the owners’ 18th-century house manor house, indoor swimming pool, tennis court and games room.
Close to Dorchester, Weymouth and Sherborne, Doles Ash Farm Cottages are located in a great position to explore Dorset, and are perfect for a relaxing holiday with family and friends or a short romantic break. The countryside surrounding the farm is glorious, and offers a network of footpaths direct from your door. This landscape was made famous by Thomas Hardy and Doles Ash features in his “Tess of the D’urbervilles” as Flint Comb Ash.

Location description
Doles Ash Farm is set in the heart of West Dorset in the beautiful rural location of the Piddle Valley. It is surrounded by the rolling hills however there are plenty of attractions close by.
Dorchester & Poundbury: Only 15 minutes away where you can find plenty of high street and boutique shops, cinemas and restaurants. Prince Charles’ architecturally designed village of Poundbury is a fashionable new village with artisan bakery’s and coffee shops.
Weymouth: A traditional seaside town only 20 minutes away. Home to the 2012 sailing Olympics, it has a large harbour, Sealife Centre and the famous Chesil beach.
Jurassic Coast: This World Heritage Coastline and is a “must see” when in Dorset. Visit Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge , Ringstead Bay , Durldle Door, or Worbarrow Bay where you can explore rock pools, hunt for fossils and experience some stunning scenery.
Dorset Villages: There are many local picturesque Dorset villages. Visit Milton Abbas with its row of thatched houses or the pretty village of Cerne Abbas with its famous giant on the hill which is situated just a short drive from the farm. The quaint village of Moreton is famous as the final resting place of “Lawrence of Arabia”, and has an 18th Century church with stunning stained engraved glass windows. The result, especially on a sunny day, is a spectacle worth seeing. In the village of Higher Bockhampton you can visit Thomas Hardy’s cottage, owned by the National Trust, and walk in Hardy’s footsteps on some lovely trails surrounding the cottage. Many local pubs and attractions are also dog friendly.
Sherborne: A pretty market town with a Castle and Abbey and boutique shops. Sherborne is approximately a 20 minute drive away.
Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and Sandbanks: 45 minutes away this is a great day trip. Visit Poole quay with its marinas and take a boat trip to Brownsea Island which is owned by the National Trust. Sandbanks is one of the most expensive places in the world to live. It offers fantastic sandy beaches and lots of watersports.
Swanage: A traditional seaside resort, family beach and has a long promenade with ice cream kiosks. There are lots for kids to do with amusements and a steam railway running to Corfe Castle . Admire the views from Durlston Country Park you may even spot Dolphins.! Fancy a long walk ? Take the Dorset Coastal Path and you could walk to Studland past the iconic Old Harry rocks and explore the designated nature trails
Bournemouth: With its 7 miles of award winning sandy beaches and traditional pier and gardens is approx 1 hour away by car. There is so much to do it is well worth a day trip.
West Bay (Broadchurch): Approx 30 minutes away by car, fossil hunters should also visit Charmouth and Seatown . Lyme Regis Is a classic old fashioned seaside town with narrow winding streets and immense character. It has a lovely sandy beach and is perfect for families as again a good fossil area !
