Description of holiday cottage in Dolton, South West

Dating from the 1700's, Vine Cottage sits in a row of three white-washed thatched cottages. Situated in the centre of Dolton, a short walk (5 mins) from the three village pubs, local shop and family butcher. The cottage retains many original features, including exposed beams, inglenook fireplace and clome oven. There is also a sunny cottage flower garden and patio at the front of the property.

The spacious living room benefits from a comfy leather sofa, and a woodburner-style electric stove in a traditional Inglenook fireplace. The charming dining area has oak table and chairs, the intimate atmosphere encourages romantic evenings in.

The character staircase leads you to a generous size bedroom with a traditionally styled kingsize iron bed. The smaller second bedroom has a double bed and washbasin. Both bedrooms have access to the bathroom which includes an electric shower. At the rear of the property is a small courtyard; here you will find a ladies and a gents bicycle (with helmets) which you are free to use, but at your own risk.

Vine Cottage provides the perfect base for exploring Dartmoor, Exmoor and the dramatic coastline that makes North Devon a must at any time of year.

Location description

Dolton is surrounded by quiet countryside full of walks and pretty villages many of which have quaint pubs serving tasty food.
The area has a wealth of natural beauty to see and explore. In North East Devon there is Exmoor with its stunning views, dramatic cliff side walks and wild Red Deer.
Further west we have the large expanses of sand at Woolacombe, Saunton and Westward Ho! beaches.
The passenger Ferry for Lundy Island leaves from Bideford and Ifracombe, on this National Trust owned island you might see seals, and seabirds including puffins.
The coast of North Cornwall is definitely worth a visit, favoured by surfers there are also the beautiful fishing villages of Boscastle, Port Issac and Padstow; not to forget the site of the legendary castle of King Arthur at Tintagel.
Due south there is the rugged mass of Dartmoor. Edged by pretty valleys and ancient towns and villages such as Tavistock, Belstone, Moretonhamptead and Chagford. Okehampton Castle and Castle Drogo are worth a visit.

Directions

For visitors arriving from London airports or Kent coast ferries the M5 (via Bristol) or the A303 are the main routes. In our experience many foreign visitors have stayed one night or more on their way to Devon; however a late arrival can be arranged to allow visitors a break in their journey. We are happy to advise guests on the most appropriate route to make their journey as easy as possible; SatNav systems do not always provide the best route.
