Description of holiday cottage near Cognac, Poitou-Charentes

The cottage is a stone Charentais workers house, originally built in 1836. It has been completely rebuilt (from the foundations upwards!) and was first let for holidays in 2008. Although the outside is a traditional stone finish, the inside is very modern and furnished to a high standard. It is set away from busy roads, in the Grand Champagne region of the Cognac vineyards. There are no immediate neighbours and the cottage, which is set in its own gardens, is not overlooked by the owners who live in the main house.

The cottage has 2 private terraces - North and South so there is usually a choice of sunshine or shade (if the sun's out of course!). The pool is 12m x 6m, making a L-shape with the steps which are 4m x 4m.

Location description

Set in the heart of the Grand Champagne region of Cognac, Bois Blanc was originally built in 1838 as a vineyard owner’s house, with attached barn and worker’s cottage. The current owners, Chris and Mandie Davis are now carefully creating 3 luxury holiday venues by renovating the 2 bedroom cottage and converting the barn into Modern and Classic one bedroom apartments. The Cottage, with pool, is now ready to let.

Other activities

Learn about cognac. We can arrange cognac tours at the large well known houses and at smaller independent single estates. Cooking. There are good local markets and seafood is a speciality of the area. The cottage is equipped with a full German kitchen ready for you to try out your skills! The wine regions of Bordeaux are accessible. eg St Emillion

Lots of local festivals. The Cognac Blues passion in July, the Angouleme 'Circuit des ramparts' in September - see our website for a full list of 'things to do'.

ROAD: using the A10 Autoroute exit at Pons. (about 7 hours drive from Calais)
TRAIN: take the Eurostar from London or Ashford, change at Lille for the TGV direct to Angouleme. (3 hours from Lille) car hire available from Angouleme.
AIR: use Angouleme, Bordeaux, Poitiers or La Rochelle airports.
