    Description

    "The Bothy" is ideal for a couple to escape from busy life and just rest, or go out and explore the mountains of Snowdonia and beaches of Anglesey. The building is likely to have been the original farm house at Coch Hir , constructed sometime during the 18th century. It has been carefully restored, using traditional methods, to try and re-capture the past while still providing a comfy and cosy space. It is a unique and special place where you can enjoy relaxing by the wood burning stove if it is cool, or enjoy a glass of wine sitting in the courtyard on a warm summer evening.

    The kitchen overlooks the courtyard and has views across fields towards Anglesey in the distance. The Croglofft ( original Welsh name for the sleeping platform or mezzanine floor) is open plan and reached by alternating tread stairs. The double bed nestles in under the low beamed ceiling and if you wish you can leave the blind open to see the stars on a clear night.

    The bathroom, downstairs, has a shower cubicle and toilet, and both it and the kitchen have underfloor heating. The kitchen area has a table and 4 chairs.

    Outside is a woodshed, that houses the garden furniture with room for bikes and drying wet clothes.

    The farm is reached by a small lane, so is quiet and secluded, but Snowdon can be seen from the entrance gate and Llanberis, frequented by walkers and mountaineers, is only five miles away. The village has two steam railways, the rack and pinion Snowdon Mountain railway and the Lake Railway which trundles along the shore of Llyn Padarn. There is an informative slate museum, which gives insight into the historical culture of the region, the Electric Mountain Visitor Centre, a High Ropes course, for the adventurous, or boat trips along Llyn Padarn.

    There are many other outdoor activities available in the area, not least the longest zip wire in Europe with descents reaching up to 100 mph over the Penrhyn Slate Quarry at Zip World, Bethesda. A little further away, in the Conwy valley, Surf Snowdonia has recently opened a big surfing lagoon.

    Those interested in history can visit the World Heritage town of Caernarfon, with its magnificent castle, (five miles). The town walls enclose some attractive little streets, with shops to browse and plenty of eateries to choose from.
