Situated just outside Leysin village, at an altitude of 4,500′, Chalet Chimère overlooks the towering mountains of the Alpes Vaudoises with stunning views towards Les Diablerets Glacier, Villars, Les Dents du Midi, Mt Blanc and the Rhône Valley (often submerged under a sea of cloud) far below.

This traditional Swiss chalet offers exceptionally comfortable accommodation in a classic Alpine setting on the peaceful outskirts of historic Leysin. A friendly French speaking village, Leysin offers numerous attractions for all ages, with over a dozen excellent restaurants (some in mountain settings), two sports centres, two supermarkets and varied shopping.

Designed for 8-10 guests, the chalet is available for rental either as a complete family home, or 3 fully-equipped self-contained apartments. Chalet Chimère has an attractive garden, a small stream, two garages and off-road parking.

Master bedroom at mid-level has French doors with superb view of mountains and early morning sun. En suite bathroom and dressing room. In addition to the above bedrooms each of the 3 living areas has a double sofa bed for occasional use, with private access to bathrooms. There are also single folding beds for overnight visitors. A sliding wall in Top apartment living area allows an extra bedroom with double sofa bed, though this is not recommended for a long stay. Garden and Mid-level apartment bedrooms have TV/VCR; all bathrooms have BBC Radio 4. Fresh linen and towels provided weekly (or more frequently at extra cost).

Location description

Leysin is convenient for excellent day trips to nearby well-known towns and villages, including Gstaad, Les Mosses, Rougemont, Villars, Château d’Oex, Saanen, Glacier 3000, Les Diablerets, Lausanne, Montreux, St Gingolph and Vevey. There are also numerous attractions including the superb spa at Lavey Les Bains, the Fondation Pierre Gianadda Museum, with gardens and Roman ruins, near Martigny, and of course, fabulous Lac Léman (Lake Geneva). All are less than 40 mins by car, post bus or train.

Other activities

There’s a lot to do for all ages, both winter and summer, in Leysin and the surrounding area. Winter is dominated by snow sports: skiing, boarding, tobogganing and ski du fond; Spring and Summer by walking, climbing, mountain biking and the Autumn offers numerous options (including mushroom picking!). Paragliding, based around the summit at Berneuse, is available throughout the year, with dual training available.

The village patinoire offers ice skating throughout the year, and tennis, swimming, tennis (indoor / outdoor) and squash are available in the Leysin sports centre. Curling, boules and mini-golf can be enjoyed subject to weather, and there are several excellent golf-courses within 30mins drive.

Aigle is the site of the Word Cycling Centre (Centre Mondial du Cyclisme) - a superbly equipped sports centre offering the latest training and facilities including a wood-covered 200m track, gymnastics hall, dedicated body building equipment and a multi-purpose sports area.

Directions

Leysin is well served by road and rail, and via Geneva, air connections are excellent. One should allow 2hrs by road or rail from Geneva, keeping in mind that driving on the mountain road for the final 18kms (via Aigle, in the valley), is not recommended in snow and ice conditions for ‘first-timers’, especially at night. The cog train from Aigle is highly reliable, and operates every hour from 0500 to 2300.
