Description of holiday chalet near La Bastide Clairence, Aquitaine

5 contemporary chalets in the heart of the Basque countryside. Each chalet is 30 square metres, sleeping 2 adults. Each has a small double bedroom, living/dining room and American kitchen. There is a shower room with washbasin and WC and a verandah where guests can eat and enjoy the panoramic views over the river and surrounding countryside. Each chalet has an outside sun area with 2 sunbeds. There is a 10 x 3m heated swimming pool with deck area with sunbeds and also a lounge area. Spectacular views from the swimming pool and lounge area. Each chalet has a BBQ, the kitchens are equipped with a gas cooker/hob, fridge, kettle and coffee machine.

Wonderfully peaceful location yet only 10 minutes to the A64 and 30 minutes from Biarritz sea front. The ideal base from which to explore the Basque Country, Bayonne, Pau, Cambo les Bains, St. Jean Pied de Port, St. Jean de Luz and across the Spanish Border: San Sebastian, Bilbao and Pamplona are all just a short drive away.
The wildlife surrounding the chalets is fascinating. We have spotted otters, beavers and mink in the river, herons, kingfishers, dippers, wild deer, Griffon vultures and red kites. We have goats along our river bank and our neighbours have donkeys, llamas and horses.

Location description

The Basque Country is rich in history, culture and gastronomy. There are many local festivals throughout the summer including running of the bulls, food competitions, fireworks, etc. Beautiful sandy beaches along the Basque coastline. Excellent surf conditions.

Directions

Exit no. 4 from A64 motorway. Take all directions La Bastide Clairence - drive straight up through centre of village taking D123 direction Oregue passing the church. After 5 minutes you arrive at the hamlet of Pessarou. You cross a small bridge at the bottom of the valley and then take first left. Follow the road along the river to the very end.
Ryan Air and Easyjet fly to Biarritz, Pau, Bilbao and Bordeaux. A hire car is essential.
