This self-catering chalet named 'Seil Chalet' is situated within the Balvicar Chalet site which has a peaceful and relaxing setting just 75 metres from the shores of Seil Sound, in the Isle of Seil just 15 Miles south of Oban, West of Scotland which known as the Gateway to The Highlands and Islands of Scotland

The village has a licenced shop with post office, there is a nine golf course and the nearest public house is the Tigh An Truish at Clachan.

The area is one of the most attractive parts of the West of Scotland and offers a wealth of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. It is perfect for those wanting to enjoy a rural holiday, walking trails and boat trips.

Oban, some 15 miles to the north boasts many shops, restaurants, public houses, hotels and banks. There is a tourist Infomation centre near the sea front, and Oban is the base for many of the Caledonian MacBrayne ferries to the inner islands including Mull, Tiree, Coll and Colonsay and to the Outer Islands.

Location description

Take a step back in time, cross the famous Bridge Over the Atlantic and enjoy a restful and peaceful holiday in Scotland. Just meters from the shore of the Seil Sound, Seil Chalet is ideally located close to Balvicar on the Isle of Seil. Accessed via the famous 'Bridge over the Atlantic' and only 15 miles south of Oban.
Balvicar is an excellent base from which to explore the islands of Luing and Easdale. The village has a licenced shop with post office, there is a nine golf course and the nearest public house is the Tigh An Truish at Clachan.

Other activities

Isle of Seil is the ideal location to recharge your batteries. Your holiday can be as relaxing or as busy as you wish it to be as there are a host of activities availbale in nearby oban. To name a few there is shopping, swimming, boat trips, cinema, restaurants, bowling, kayaking and canoeing.

Local events

There is a community hall on Seil Island and another on the very close island of Easdale which host various events. Each year the Oban Highland Games are held and also every year the World Stone Skimming Championship is held on Easdale Island a two minute boat ride away.

Tourist attractions

Sea Safari, Kilchurn Castle Loch Awe, Cruachan Dam, The Standing Stones at Kilmartin Glen.

The islands within the area are steeped in history and bear the remains of previous civilisations and habitations. Many are now uninhabited and are ideal for exploring. The Gulf of Corryvreckan which is thought to be the largest whirlpool in Europe, lies south west between the islands of Scarba and Jura.

Oban Zoo and Rare Breeds Farm are popular with younger visitors and the Sealife Centre just north of Oban offers a fascinating insight into the local marine environment, including close up encounters with seals, otters and seahorse

Oban also has its own distillery which offers guided tours through the production process including the wee dram at the finish!! A trip up McCaig's tower rewards the climber with spectacular views across the islands and surrounding area.

Directions

Although an island the Isle of Seil is accessed from the mainland by the famous Bridge Over the Atlantic and thus giving you all the charms of an island but without the inconvenience of ferry timetables

Travelling from Oban take the A816 south and continue along this road for about 8 miles. Just before the village of Kilninver take the right hand turn to the Atlantic Bridge. Follow this road over the bridge and continue towards Easdale until Balvicar stores. Just beyond the stores take the left turn at the junction and follow to Balvicar Chalets, Seil Chalet is the third on the left.
