Description of holiday castle near Dunoon, West Coast and the Isles

Hafton Castle is a magnificent building with views across Holy Loch, set in its own delightful gardens with its own magnificent indoor swimming pool.

Both the castle and its grounds are licensed for Civil Wedding Ceremonies.

The Castle is a superb house with its wonderful indoor pool, billiard room, toy room, big conservatory, library, and lots of outdoor space, plenty of space for the large number of people its sleeps. The magnificent front hall has plenty of seating, wood-burner and a grand piano and leads to the sweeping staircase, a feature of the house. The Castle was built by James Hunter, and its architect was David Hamilton who also designed Dunoon Castle.

The bedrooms are very comfortable and all have en-suite showers. The building has some special features, beautiful ceilings, carved doors and a superb staircase. There are numerous spacious public rooms. Dining room, large drawing-room which has a bar area and double doors onto the small drawing-room and the two rooms open out into one very large room, perfect for weddings or other gatherings.

Outside the gardens have impressive old trees, lawns and the views across the Loch are beautiful. The Castle can be reached from Glasgow Airport in approximately 45 minutes by car and guests usually arrive via the ferry which departs from Gourock and crosses the Firth of Clyde, a very romantic and atmospheric start to their stay at Hafton.

Location description

Hafton Castle is situated in Hunter's Quay, 2.5 miles outside Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula an area of outstanding natural beauty. Day trips can be taken to Wemyss Bay, the Isle of Bute and Rothesay. There are botanical gardens close by and local activities include golf, swimming, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, fishing and quad biking.

Directions

Most visitors will travel from Glasgow,[ approximately 45 minutes drive from Glasgow Airport by car] to Gourock and take the car ferry across the Firth of Clyde to Hunter's Quay. When leaving the ferry, turn right and the castle will be found further along this road on the left. Budget Airlines, Ryanair and Easyjet fly from many airports in the UK and elsewhere to Glasgow, and Ryanair flies from Stansted Airport to Prestwick. The ferry from Gourock runs on a regular basis throughout the day.
