Description
Our beach house is situated in the Natural Park of the Ria Formosa on one of the sandy island beaches of the Eastern Algarve. It is reached by a short passenger-ferry ride from the sea-port town of Olhão. Ferries run regularly during the summer and 3 or 4 times a day from October to May. Houses, a few cafes, restaurants, and basic shops form a settlement at the ferry-end of the island. From the jetty it is a 10/15 minute walk along the paths towards the Atlantic side of the island to our house.
The house is quietly situated on the western side of the island and is very close to a tidal lake. The lake is small with the lowest tides but with the highest tides at the full and new moon it fills right up to the back gateway, making it a remarkable and unique base for a beach holiday. With no roads or cars on the island, and no TV in the simply furnished house, this is an ideal location for beach-lovers, families with children, birdwatchers or those who just want to get away from it all.
