Looking for a gastronomic treat, or simply in need of a break in a quiet spot with excellent food? Whether you’re holidaying in the area, breaking a journey or house hunting, Jan & Richard warmly welcome you to La Chouette, their 'chambres d'hôtes' in a green, and peaceful location in the Limousin, central France. The house stands in almost two acres of garden, with a pond and views over the valley and the forest. You’ll be amazed by the wildlife you can watch if you sit quietly, and at the end of a summer’s day you will be lulled to sleep by the sound of the frogs calling each other.

La Chouette offers four comfortable rooms (two doubles and two family rooms for four) on the ground floor of the renovated barn adjacent to the house, and a fifth double room on the first floor in the main house. All bedrooms have heating for the cooler months and an en-suite shower room and WC and there are facilities for guests to make tea and coffee.

After a day exploring the area, travelling or just relaxing, why not join Richard, a retired head chef, Jan and other guests around the 'table d'hôte' for a mouth-watering four-course meal, based on classical dishes and freshly prepared from local ingredients and seasonal fruit and vegetables from the garden. La Chouette is known locally to be the best place to dine for miles around, but is exclusively for those staying overnight. Guests return time after time to sample Richard’s latest menus, pick up cooking tips, and of course, enjoy dinner conversations with other guests!

At breakfast you can sample home made bread and jams, enjoy freshly baked croissants, fresh fruit and cereals, and if the fancy takes you, a newly laid egg or two from Richard and Jan’s chickens.

La Chouette lies approximately thirty-five minutes east of the A20 motorway and Limoges, and ten minutes from the towns of Eymoutiers and Chateauneuf la Fôret and is ideally placed for exploring central Limousin and Lac de Vassivière.

Location description

The Limousin is the land of hills, woods and water - it's everywhere! It's an ideal location for those enjoying outdoor pursuits with many kilometers of marked walks and even more if you simply enjoy setting off with a map. La Chouette is almost half an hour from Lac de Vassivière, which offers splendid views and many different watersports, but nearer are lakes and beaches at Chateauneuf la Fôret and Sussac for those who enjoy lake swimming.

Eymoutiers is an interesting former tanners' town, with old buildings, and the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle (modern art centre). The Vienne flows through the middle of town and in the summer you can join the kayak school. A train service links Eymoutiers and Limoges, passing through the beautiful Vienne valley, and during the summer a steam train runs along this line.

Directions

Ryanair and Flybe operate regular flights to Limoges (Bellegarde) airport from many destinations in the UK, and there are a number of car-hire firms based at the airport. From the airport, follow the signs for the A20 motorway and head south (Toulouse), leaving the A20 at Junction 35, towards Eymoutiers (D979). Follow this road to La Veytisou, and then take the first turn on the right, signposted La Corrive, La Chapoulaudie and Courtiaux Romanet. Follow this road down the hill, to the right and through La Chapoulaudie towards Courtiaux Romanet. After aproximately 2 kms take the first turn on the right towards Les Bruges and Ste Anne St Priest, and La Chouette is the first house on the right.
