Cowclose Farm is a 200 year old stone farmhouse enjoying lovely views of the surrounding countryside. It has belonged to our family since 1946. We are pleased to share our home with our guests from all over the world. Our 2 guests bedrooms have been refurbished to give a high standard of comfort. There is a large guest lounge with TV. We offer an extensive breakfast menu sourced from local and homegrown/made produce. We can offer healthy options.

We are keen gardeners and grow our own vegetables and fruit. We have recently planted a new orchard with wildlife pond and wildflower area. We are working towards membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

We are happy to accommodate children, walkers and cyclists. Our business has been awarded 4 STARS BY VISIT BRITAIN plus Welcome to Walkers and Welcome to Cyclists Awards.

Location description

Our farmhouse is in a quiet, but not isolated location, surrounded by lovely open countryside. It is about 2 km (1 mile) from the eastern edge of The Peak District National Park.

There are many stately homes in the area including the famous Chatsworth House (featured in the film The Duchess), Hardwick Hall, Haddon Hall and Bolsover Castle. This is excellent walking country, offering a wide variety of landscapes and walks to suit all abilities. The local custom of Well Dressing can be see in many villages throughout the summer months.

Other activities

Our farmhouse overlooks the Linacre Valley (woods and reservoirs) which has an interesting network of footpaths.

Local events

Chesterfield is a market town and famous for its Crooked Spire. There are regular markets including a monthly farmers' market and an annual medieval market in July. See www.visitchesterfield.info

Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall (National Trust), Renishaw Gardens, Bolsover Castle (English Heritage), Crich Tramway Museum, caverns at Castleton where the famous Blue John stone is mined, farms welcoming children, rock climbing, Bakewell Market and annual agricultural show, Eyam Plague Village, Gulliver's Kingdom, cable car at Matlock Bath, museums at Derby and Sheffield. Directions

Cowclose Farm is situated on the B6050 8 km (5 miles) west of CHESTERFIELD. It is almost opposite The Gate Inn pub/restaurant. A car in desirable. There is a country bus service into Chesterfield, From Chesterfield there are buses to the Peak District, Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham. From Chesterfield there is a train service south to Derby, Nottingham and London, and north to Sheffield, York, Harrogate and Scotland.
