Beech House is situated in Blennerhasset, a traditional Cumbrian Village. We are located on a 4 acre smallholding beside the River Ellen where we raise free-range Saddleback pigs and hens, as well as a small flock of rare breed Ryeland sheep. Guests are welcome to explore the smallholding and help with the animals.

Our hearty Cumberland breakfasts are all cooked to order using our own home reared or locally grown produce. Alternatively select from juice, fresh fruit and cereal. We also offer evening meals by arrangement.

Beech House is ideally situated to take advantage of the many attractions of the Western Lakes from walking the fells. Skiddaw is just five miles away; taking in the sights of Cockermouth, the birth place of William Wordsworth; or playing a round of golf on Silloth’s golf links. After a busy day exploring the sights relax in the lounge, in front of the wood burning stove; in the infra-red sauna or hot tub or a hammock in the garden over looking the village green.

We have 3 light and spacious bedrooms, all newly re-furbished using traditional furnishings, complimented by all of the conveniences of modern living, including digital TV with Freeview, coffee and tea making facilities, hair dryer, alarm clock, robes and luxury toiletries.

Choose between:

A master suite with its own private sitting area and en-suite bathroom with spa bath

A double room with views over the village green and an en-suite shower room

Or a twin room with a large private bathroom - with a bath and separate shower.

The guest lounge is furnished with big comfy sofas and chairs and ideal for relaxing in front of the wood burning stove - with a delicious afternoon tea. Alternatively, listen to music, browse the selection of books and magazines or indulge in a game of Cluedo!

After a tiring day on the fells why not relax in the hot tub or sooth your aching bones in the infra-red sauna?

We also have drying facilities for wet walking gear and laundry can be done for a small charge. An iron and ironing board are available on request.

We have ample undercover storage for bikes and walking gear.

Beech House is Wi-Fi enabled and there is an office with a computer for guests use.

Within a short distance of Beech House there are some gentle walks and a range of activities which you can participate in including …

Fishing – one of the oldest carp lakes in the country is situated at Brayton Park just a mile from Blennerhasset. A little further away at Maryport it is possible to go Sea Angling.

Golf – Brayton Park also boasts a pay as you play 9-hole golf course and there is a Links course at Silloth.

Horse riding – there are a number of local stables nearby where lessons are available.

Beech House is on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. Try exploring some of the lesser known lakes and tarns including Ennerdale , Crummock and Loweswater.

We are just 20 minutes from Keswick, on the edge of Derwentwater, 15 minutes from Cockermouth, birth place of William Wordsworth, and 30 minutes from Carlisle, The Border City. We are also within easy reach of a range of tourist attractions including The Cumberland Pencil Museum, Carlisle Castle, Tullie House Museum and several fine country houses.

Beech House is located in the heart of Blennerhasset a small traditional Cumbrian village.

Legend has it that Blennerhasset was founded during the Viking settlements of the 10th Century and long before that there was a Roman settlement here south of where the village now stands. In the 19th Century the village was at the heart of an ill-fated ‘model’ farm experiment established by the local landowner. Beech House was the venue for the weekly village parliament.

Public transport is very limited and it is essential to have a car if you wish to explore the sights and sounds of this beautiful part of the Lakes.
