Description of holiday b&b near Bedar, Andalucia

We call our house Finca la Serenidad for the peace and tranquility it offers - and it happens to be close to the charming little village of Serena.

We bought this beautiful piece of land - 10 acres of it - in 1999 but it was not until 2007 that the house was finally built and we were able to start to welcome the B&B guests that we designed it for. Having just two guest rooms with a private sitting room makes it the ideal retreat for two couples travelling together or a family. The guest sitting room is equipped with fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine and table-top grill, making it possible to prepare simple meals if you do not want to go out or to take advantage of our dinners.

You are also welcome to use the barbecue and the pool at any time, as well of course as the loungers on the pool terrace.

We have spent many happy years staying in B&Bs in France and we have made sure that those things we looked for can all be found at La Serenidad: firm comfortable mattresses, large fluffy towels (almost never found in France!), good bathroom lighting, pool towels and hairdryers to save on packing.

There are some wonderful walks all around the house and our soppy German Shorthaired Pointer, Kippy, is always happy to show you his favorite if you would like his company. There are also three cats in residence so this is not a good place if you have a cat allergy!

Our main local village is Bédar, just two kilometres away. There you will find 4 bar/restaurants, a bank, small supermarket, baker and chemist. The views from the Miramar restaurant (where they do a magical slow baked lamb, famous for miles around) down to the coast are really spectacular.

If you feel a bit more energetic and want to wander further afield, the wonderful beaches of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park are about 45 mintues away. Within half an hour there are Go-Karts at Garrucha, an Aqua Park at Vera and four golf courses including the popular Valle del Este and Europe's only desert courst, Desert Springs.

Location description

Almeria is the most easterly province in Andalucia and has largely been spared the mass coastal development which has afflicted the more popular costas, especially in the eastern part of the province where Bedar is situated. The coastal ribbon is not too deep, it is easy to get around (car essential as public transport limited) as there is not much traffic outside of August. The most popular local beach area is Mojacar which had 3 blue flags and many chiringuitos (beach bars) serving wonderful fish and paellas. It is not a big place for night life so if clubbing is your thing this is not for you - it is much more of a chill-out destination. The famous beaches of Cabo de Gata are very close and if you are into diving there are wonderful things to be seen in the waters there as it is the most important marine habitat in the Med.

Directions

Bedar is just 10km from junction 520 on the E15 motorway. The nearest airport is Almeria but there is much more choice to Alicante and Murcia. Murcia is closer but the quickest route is via a toll road which is about €12 each way.
