Description of holiday barn in La Queyrelie, Aquitaine
THE PROPERTY: which is approximately 300 years old and converted to a high standard, is decorated, furnished and equipped to provide a very comfortable home The spacious dry wall stone barn in hues of buff, rose and ochre is extremely pretty with a light airy interior aspect. The House, overlooking the private swimming pool, has a large living room (58m²), a separate fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms one with a double and 2 single beds, a shower-room, a bathroom, and two toilets. It has very thick walls and mainly terracotta tiled floors to give a welcome cool retreat from the heat of the Périgord summer. For cooler days and evenings in the lower season there is a substantial glass fronted wood burning stove with an ample supply of logs. Central heating is also available in the low season, subject to arrangement, at an additional charge. Although this house is on one level there are several flights of steps in the grounds. The high beamed living room has a hand carved stone fireplace housing a substantial glass fronted wood burning stove. Triple double glazed French windows lead onto a very large south facing suntrap terrace. Windows to either side of the fireplace overlook the pool, garden and valley. The room is comfortably furnished to include; ceiling fan, reading lamps, two writing desks, a six place dining table which extends to ten places, arm chairs, a 3 place settee and two 3 seater sofa beds. It has an open aspect inner lobby containing a large bookcase full of paperbacks. A satellite TV is provided.
There are two double bedrooms, both are carpeted and have good wardrobe space. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom with a bath, hand basin and bidet, there is a separate w.c. outside of the suite. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and two single beds, and an adjacent w.c./shower-room.
A child's cot, cot linen and a child's highchair are available on request at no charge.
The separate kitchen is of a good size with ample work tops and is very well equipped to include a family size fridge, an upright freezer, a gaz oven with a four burner hob, micro wave oven, washing machine and a dishwasher. The kitchen window overlooks the pool, valley and garden. The kitchen door leads down to the second terrace which is laid to the width of the house and overlooks the pool and gives a panoramic view of the valley. This terrace connects to the south facing terrace via a gate. The established garden is on an incline of two levels with several flights of steps.
The swimming pool, 9m x 4m with a uniform depth of 1.5m, overlooks the view of the valley from the pool side. It is completely fenced with a padlocked gate. The pool season normally runs from May until October. Sun loungers, garden furniture and sun umbrellas are provided and there is a good sized efficient barbecue. There is a full garden and pool maintenance service. Duvets, pillows and one set of bed linen per bed are supplied at no additional charge. For two week rentals sheets and pillow cases are changed weekly. House towels can be provided on request. Logs can be provided in the low season. There is a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher in the house.
LA QUEYRELIE: is a tiny hamlet nestling in the side of a beautiful valley and is situated at the end of a secluded country lane. It is not even shown on some maps! The lane is a no-through road. Although not far by car from the access to the new auto route and the N89 as well as the D704 there is absolutely no traffic noise from these roads. The position of the property is a ramblers paradise with designated and signposted rambling trails in Le Grand Coderc; the trails are marked accordingly: red and white for the “GR” routes (long-distance footpaths), yellow for the local routes, and blue for the “PR” routes (walks). it is very easy to get lost in acres of verdant countryside so it is highly recommended that these paths are used for off road walking. There is a very good restaurant within walking distance of La Queyrelie in the neighbouring village of Le Grand Coderc (where we live). People come from far and wide for the traditional regional cuisine offered by this restaurant. The village of Azerat (approx. 5mins. drive) is not within comfortable walking distance other than for hill walking enthusiasts. Azerat only has one bar restaurant now but it does have a grocers/ post office, a swimming pool, a shady boules pitch and a tennis court. Thenon, a small market town, is about five minutes drive from Azerat and has several very good restaurants, a good selection of shops and a Tuesday morning market. St Rabier on the D704 (6 mins drive) has a grocers/bar/snack bar and an excellent highly recommended restaurant with a wider choice of menu than the traditional regional cuisine. There are many other very good restaurants locally with menus for a five course meal from around 12 euros often with wine included. The beautiful Chateau town of Hautefort and the lake Coucou are within 15 minutes drive and Montignac about 20 mins by car. Our excellent local doctor in Hautefort is English speaking.
There is an optional 2 bedroom, two bathroom Guest house to the property which will remain unoccupied during your visit unless of course you wish to invite friends or family to join you. The Guest House can be rented on a daily basis.

Location description
This is the home of prehistory and the sight seeing attractions range from the interesting to the spectacular. Although the pace of life is slow a wide range of activities can be enjoyed and include: Hot-air ballooning, Paintball or Quad bikes at Hautefort, Fishing or swimming in Lake Coucou at Hautefort, Golf at Brive and Périgueux, canoeing, horse riding, tennis in the local village, donkey rides, cycle hire, and river fishing, all within easy reach. There are lazy boat rides along the rivers, Terrasson now has a passenger sailing boat (a Gabarre) on the vèzere river, or for the more active, the large man made lake at Brive offers a wide variety of water sports. Thenon, our local market town, now boasts an adventure forest for the energetic, with various stages of difficulty of courses. Terrasson a beautiful ancient town, doorway to the Périgord Noir and the Vézère valley, Montignac and the Lascaux caves and our closest large town. Perigueux , the capital of the Dordogne. Terrasson is on the border of the Corrèze where can be discovered the ancient religious city of Rocamadour, Enthusiastic building restoration is a passion in this region and there is much to be admired from the lovingly restored old buildings, which seem to be found in almost every hamlet or village, to the renovated old quarters of the towns.
This area of the Dordogne is between Hautefort, in the White Pèrigord, and Montignac, in the Black Pèrigord. It is characterised by lush countryside, gently rolling hills, impressive caves and woodlands, rivers and lakes, sleepy hamlets and charming friendly people. The climate is usually excellent with long hot summers. An early warm spring and a glorious autumn can often be enjoyed by the fortunate visitor who is able to take advantage of the low season rates. Off the beaten track of the Dordogne valley tourist routes, whilst being ideally situated for touring the whole of the Dordogne and the Correze by car, La Queyrelie offers a tranquil rural retreat from which to explore the countryside on foot taking the many designated rambling trails.
Directions
